Taskmaster UK, New Zealand, Norway, Finland, Portugal and Croatia met up over the weekend to promote the show at the MIPCOM Cannes Festival 📸 Andy Devonshire
one thing i like about the international versions is that the health and safety laws are relaxed bc uktv laws would never allow stuff like this
what a disappointing stamp, finland
really interesting, it seems they’re following the swedish version more rather than the uk - similar studio and the 4 contestants and guest format
right so ep 1 of suurmestari i thought was okay for a first episode (bc as its new it tends to be weaker), but i prefer the attempts done on the other verisons. here’s some thoughts:
we have a female taskmaster assistant and thats really nice, she also has this deadpan manner which i like
the taskmaster doesn’t seem that strict, but its only ep 1 so...
we’re always gonna get a contestant to poor buring liquids in their eye, but i’m not sure if lemon juice and soap(?) will beat chilli sauce (oh romesh)
that was really disappointing hill (a small slope really), and the task went too fast imo - uk attempt was miles better and always cracks me up
idk if finnish has the word ‘propell’ but the use of ‘roll’ instead provided interesting results
contestants are bonding really well together and have nice banter which is nice
the football coach joke i laughed the most at. -despite me getting the context completly wrong (since i don’t know the finnish news) [which goes to jokes can still be pretty funny -for the anon earlier]
Watched two eps of the Finnish Taskmaster (S7E1&2) and... I don't love it. Pilvi Hämäläinen as the assistant is one of my fave things about it but there's no relationship between her and Jaakko Saariluoma as the TM and his banter with the contestants is awkward or not there.
Some differences:
No price task??
No banter section
Editing choice to show the contestants reacting to others doing the tasks in between showing the task
One of the five contestants changes every episode
There is still a price at the end but it's not something the others brought in
I get why they cast Saariluoma as he's physically similar(ish) to Greg but with the lame "banter" I was really missing the quick wit and sharpness of someone like Kari Ketonen. I can see how his deadpan style might not have worked with the deadpan of Pilvi but he'd be an excellent tyrant and his small frame would bring an interesting Napoleon complex twist. As it is I don't know that the TM has any real character besides giving some arbitrary points.
Does anyone who's seen more of this have any thoughts on this? Is S7 just an off series? They have won several awards so they must be doing something right. Or then it's just slim pickings on the Finnish gameshow front.
watching a single ep of Suurmestari or Le maître du jeu would kill ed gamble
