Song Review(s): Tauk - “Make Your Move,” “The Let Out” and “Moon Dub”
If you took Eye in the Sky-era Alan Parsons Project and blended it with a smidge of post-Let it Wander Circles Around the Sun, the result would be an aural taste of what Tauk seems to be cooking up for Make Your Move.
Out Sept. 24, the LP is preceded by the title track, “The Let Out” and “Moon Dub.” All instrumental and each featuring guitar breaks that make the songs more palatable, the tracks are also unique for their respective prog-leaning, slow-jam and noir-soundtrack elements.
Despite these in-song detours, there’s a sameness and derivative nature to the singles that keeps them from the level of Tauk’s best work. Whether the band is running out of ideas or simply trying on a new set of ill-fitting musical clothes remains to be heard.
