I always believed that love was one of those super big, mind-boggling things. Like, soulmates, twin flames, all of that. I loved all of it and dreamed of meeting my very own soulmate.
So, when I met Y/N I knew from the start she was mine. She was my soul-mate, the love of my life. Her laugh made my heart flutter, her smile gave me joy, and her personality was to die for. She was one of those girls who would either be the perfect piece to your puzzle or leave you wondering, what if. She was a storm, but I was ready for it.
After 3 years of being together, I knew she was the one. The one I’d wake up next to until we were old and grey. The one who would celebrate holidays with my family and me with hers. The one I’d spend my life with, till death do we part. I called her best friend, asked her to take her shopping so I could prep. Got her family in town, to celebrate after the proposal, it would be amazing.
I waited at her favorite spot in NYC, a high park where you could see the whole city. Fairy lights around the area with small pictures of us through the years. Her friend texted, “5 minutes away!!” and I began sweating. This was it. This is the day.
She walked over with freshly done nails and a new dress. She was gorgeous. Her lips, painted in crimson, grew into a smile as she walked over. I adored the way her freckles melted into her skin, always adding more to her collection every time she went out into the sun.
“Timothée,” she smiled, “this is so sweet!”
She walked over, greeting me with a soft hug.
"Did you have a good time with Y/B/F/F?" I asked, placing a kiss on her forehead.
"I did," she grinned, "It was nice getting to see them."
Then, I walked her around, looking at each photo, “This one was from our first date,” she chuckled.
“I didn’t think you’d allow a second date,” I grinned.
“Of course you got a second date,” she held in a laugh, “a bird pooping on you wasn’t your fault.”
Our first date was a nightmare. We went to a rooftop restaurant. Midway through the night, a pigeon decided I was his best option, and for the rest of the night, I panicked every time I saw a bird.
The two of us continued looking through the pictures, laughing at the funny memories, blushing at the sweet ones. 3 years of loving her, 3 years of being loved by her. Each photo added more stories and more memories to flood our minds. I kissed her softly, smiling into her lips.
"I love you," I said in a hushed whisper.
“Tim,” her brows softened, “how long are you going to put up with me?”
“Oh, you know, I was thinking… till death do we part?” I smiled, my hand in my pocket.
“This sounds like a marriage proposal,” her face went pale, her smile disappearing.
Maybe she was nervous since this was such a big step. We were in love, so how could it go wrong?
“Maybe it is,” I smiled, bending down onto one knee, “Will you, Y/N M/N L/N marry me?”
However, I guess in the scheme of things, I should’ve checked the forecast sooner. How would I have known it would be a thunderstorm…
“Timothée,” She whispered, crossing her arms over her chest (which she did when she was worried).
“Y/N/N, this is when you say, "yes," you know?” My grin turned into a smirk.
“I’m- Tim… I,” She fiddled with her hands, starting to breathe heavily.
A few seconds passed by in silence.
“Timothée, I love you,” she smiled.
“Yes, so can I get a-“
“But, I can’t marry you,” she frowned, not looking me in the eye.
She was a hurricane, and I wasn’t ready for the storm…
