Synopsis:
“Remember, Melinoë, above all else, we must protect our people first.”
Melinoë’s brother’s last words that night were meant to be reassuring, but now they haunt her. The notion seemed simple enough, her coming of age signified a duty to her kingdom’s citizens- one that was undeniable, one as Aetherin had commanded it.
“We must protect our people first.”
When war erupts on the foreign shores of `Avilusia’s islands, Aedion’s simple reminder leads as Melinoë’s moral compass. While she navigates her foreboden life dedicated to Osheather’s service, she receives guidance through prophetic dreams from her God to keep her on a path of virtue. Destined to avenge her family across the sea and bring peace between the two nations, she travels alongside her childhood mentor and longtime friend and sees the realities of battle firsthand. Making an unlikely acquaintance along the way, Melinoë is faced with the question: “What truly protects my people?”
Excerpt:
“Eternal Master, revered Creator of Osheather, Creator of Life, Reigner of Death, I pray that you lead my heart far from the shadows of the Damned. Lead me by my hand so that I may proclaim Your praise. Empower me with Your holy kindness, so that I, too, can join the saints and lead our nation to greatness in Your glory. I beg this of you on both my knees, humbled greatly by Your presence.”
The statue towering before her of course makes no movement, but something inside of Melinoë shifts. Briefly, she opens her eyes just in time to see the candles surrounding her blow out in a gust of wind that sweeps through the empty chapel, sneaking eerily through the doors that hang ajar. A quiet gasp escapes her as she examines the shrine in wonder. During this still moment, she doesn’t need a dream to understand Aetherin- his assurance is loud and clear. This same prayer that she’s been reciting at her bedside since childhood takes a new meaning as her country hinges on the verge of war.

I haven't posted here in some time, as I've mostly been lurking while waiting for inspiration to strike. Lately I've been doing some severe worldbuilding for The Crusades of Eicanity though, so I thought I'd use some of those ocs for this prompt.
Nehymnia: I can be your partner for the next race. Melinoë: Sorry, Nehymnia. It’s a sibling race. Aedion: Maybe there’s a contest for lonely children after this. Melinoë: It’s only children, Aedion. A lonely child is what you’re going to be when I sell you!
Melinoë: I'm going to ask you to be respectful. Vesaryn: I will politely decline.
Melinoë: WHOEVER CAUSED THIS MESS IS GOING TO- Aedion: It was me... Melinoë: ...Is going to be forgiven because everyone deserves a second chance.
Aedion: Can I ask you for a favor? Melinoë: I would literally die for you, but continue. Aedion: We need to talk about you starting sentences that way.

tCoE WIP UPDATE #1
The first chapter of The Crusades of Eicanity is officially finished! It might not seem like much, but I never thought I'd make it this far. As such, I couldn't bother to wait to share some of it with you. :)
first line(s):
The evening sun was setting on the horizon, leaving a glowing warmth that filled Melinoë’s dressing room. The gentle beaming of the last of the sun’s rays illuminated the tiara that lay in wait on her vanity. Accompanied by only her mother and the closest of her handmaids, the young woman squirmed in her seat uncomfortably as the unruly locks of her hair were torn at with a demanding brush.
favorite excerpt:
“You’re not listening to me,” Aedion threw his head back in frustration and let out a groan. “I’m trying to protect you!” “Protect me from what? Come on, Aedion, spit it out.” “From the horrors that await you. There is a war wading at the brink of our nation, and I fear that no one can stop it.” Her eyes widened at his implications. Melinoë tried to shove his hand away then but he only gripped tighter. If he was trying to scare her, it was working. “Please, stop,” she begged in desperation. She’d do anything to get away from this conversation and return to the joy that the evening’s celebration was supposed to bring. Melinoë wished that she had never eavesdropped to begin with. Surely then things would be normal. “We must protect our people first, and sometimes that comes with unfortunate circumstances. Remember that."
last line(s):
The notion was simple enough. As a representation of the crown, her duty to the public was undeniable. Unfortunate circumstances would come and go, but it would always be as Aetherin had commanded it. Regardless of the difficulties the future may hold, his guidance would keep their kingdom in the Light.
Everyone please give me a round of applause! After a few weeks of working on it, I just finished my first draft outline to my NaNo WIP: The Crusades of Eicanity! I can't wait to start working on my WIP intro for you all as I begin to dive deeper into this.
theoretically i'm going to force myself to revisit tcoe today, someone check in with me later to hold me accountable
