Beginning of the End | Hijack

Hiccup had just returned from an amazing week in Greenland with Jack. It was perhaps the best week of Hiccup's life. The stunning scenery, the climate, the people - Hiccup had never felt more at home anywhere before. Except perhaps with Jack. Jack was home - most of the time. Their week away had been peaceful, no arguments whatsoever. The peace was bliss, Hiccup had been more relaxed than he had been in months. It was a small vacation that Hiccup would remember for the rest of his life, if he was honest.

And yet, his return to the Circus just put everything in a shocking black and white for Hiccup. He was returning to work, performing again for the first time in over 4 months. He was training dragons, training himself. He was barely at home most of the time anyway. And Jack...the week away made Hiccup realise just how often they argued, how stressed Hiccup got whenever they did. Their relationship was strained, and Hiccup knew it. It was causing him more stress than he needed on the road to complete recovery and sorting out his job, keeping his job so he didn't have to go back home. He needed to keep his job, and he didn't need the arguments. He really did like Jack, perhaps he was even close to love. But...Hiccup knew what had to be done.

After spending all night awake dwelling on things, Hiccup moved from the living room into their bedroom when he heard Jack moving around. "Jack...I-I need t-to talk to you.." he murmured quietly, not looking at him.
