This is a bit of a hot take but I really think this should be shared.

Callum and Ezran's conversation in EP09 felt really disingenuous. Like… it was beautiful but it was lacking depth.

Callum talks about him and Ezran being brothers and needing each other-

"Because we were going to need each other. Because we're brothers. I still need you, Ezran. I know it's been a hard time but I really hope-"

-but the thing is, Callum wasn't there when Ezran needed him. He left to protect Rayla and Runaan. He wasn't there because he couldn't be there.

But that doesn't change the fact that he still wasn't there when Ez needed him. Katolis had just burned down, and just before that Ezran had narrowly escaped a hostage situation and barely avoided war with Karim.

He was going through some tough shit and Callum was barely ever there. And even when he came back he was just so distant, obviously torn between wanting to be there for Ezran and for Rayla, but still distant.

And when he left again he had a good reason but he still left again. And the worse part is that in the Silvergrove there wasn't one moment of regret, remorse, or internal conflict whatsoever. Never once had there been a single moment where any of them even thought about Ezran or Katolis. It felt like, had Astrid not told them about Aaravos, they would not have left the Silvergrove. At least not for a very long time.

So yes, they still needed each other and that was beautiful, but there was much more they still needed to talk about. Like…?

The way Callum started the conversation also kinda irked me because he was acting as if they'd just gotten into a petty little sibling fight. Not really showing any internal struggle at all or- in my opinion- taking it as seriously as he should've.

Like…? You literally committed treason and abandoned not only Ezran but everyone else right after the kingdom had been destroyed.

THAT'S A BIG DEAL!?

But he really wasn't treating it like one.

Idk, to me the whole conversation just felt too… condensed? Like they just summarized the main bits and left a bunch of stuff out.

Am I the only one who took issue with this?

I’d like to thank The Dragon Prince for us a platonic “I love you” between Callum and Ezran. They BOTH said it, and hugged each other tightly as they did. To see two boys be sentimental and emotional with each other, and say “I love you” to each other without hesitation, is amazing. Thank you, TDP, for giving us that precious moment between brothers.
