Aaravos’ Theme(s) + Analysis
We have been blessed with not only one, but three beautiful tracks for Aaravos! I’m assuming they are all for him since they have the same piano chords and motifs. (Thoughts down below)
Now, I'm not much of a music analyst, but I would like to share some of my thoughts on these tracks:
The first one we hear is the quick and brief, “I See You”, which plays during the scene where Virus finds out that Aaravos can see him. I find that this track perfectly embodies Aaravos as the “mystery elf in the mirror”: it’s mysterious, slightly mischievous, and gives us a taste of power and danger before ending abruptly and leaving us wanting more. It teases the audience with the idea of this new, exciting character.
Then we get the longer and slower “Follow My Lead”, which plays during the scene where Aaravos guides Viren through the spells to contact him. I find this one a little dark and melancholy, kind of representative of the centuries of solitude Aaravos had to go through in the mirror. This track builds up slowly but surely into something almost hopeful, like how Aaravos’ plan is finally, finally rolling out after so much waiting.
And finally, there’s “How May I Serve You?”, which plays when Viren finally hears Aaravos speak. I find this one the most interesting of the bunch. It has this whole sense of impending danger and doom and really makes me believe Aaravos is going to be the main antagonist and totally shake up the world. What makes this one more remarkable is the sudden key and mood change at around 1:13. The sound is suddenly more majestic and grandiose but with a tinge of darkness and... finality? to it? It just makes me think of how Aaravos might have been in his glory days and the struggles he may have gone through before being trapped in the mirror.
Anyways I love all these themes and they are all absolutely beautiful (like Aaravos hehe). What do you guys think?
