Tea Review - Samurai Chai Mate (Yerba Mate)
Place Purchased: Teavana. Loose or Bagged: Loose. Type: Yerba Mate (green). Added Ingredients: Green Mate, green Rooibos, cinnamon, anise, coriander, caradamom, almond, candied papaya, candied pineapple, lemon grass, orange peel and bright blue cornflowers. Taste: Okay, needless to say I thought this tea would be absolutely terrible based on smell (we'll get to that) but I decided to experiment a little with some Yerbas. However, when I steeped it and let the flavors mellow out I have to say I was delightfully surprised and it quickly made my tastebuds love it. It doesn't have a super strong flavor, and its just slightly spicy which leaves a great tingle on my tongue. I was looking for a spicy chai tea, next to my Maharaja Oolong and this one is starting to become one of my favorites. Honestly, the tea is nicely flavored and the jolt is associated both with the Yerba's caffeine and the ingredients added to it. The taste may not be to your liking right away, but trust me, once you get to end of the cup you'll learn to love it. Aroma: Don't let the aroma fool you! When I first smelled this tea, I didn't quite like it. Something kept throwing me off but I persisted, despite knowing that if I didn't like the tea, it would be a waste of money. The aroma is very...strong, very unlike the taste. You can definitely smell the cardamom and the anise in there, which for some people may be a deal-breaker. But try it, some teas may smell bad and taste great and vice versa! Look: A very light looking tea and rather pretty to look at in truth. The bright blue cornflowers really add such a pop of color! Overall Review: Now there isn't much to say about this tea except for the fact that I absolutely love it! The tea is a perfect blend in my opinion and the people at Teavana know me very well it seems to have suggested it. I was very iffy at first, seeing as it wasn't exactly what I wanted (not really too big of a fan of Yerba Mate) but I decided I didn't have a flavored one in my cupboard yet so why not take a small risk? I did and it turns out I love the spicy, jolting flavor of it. It has all the wonderful qualities of a chai and the tropical flavors of a herbal/green tea. It certainly balances well, the caffeine since it has Yerba and the mellowness of Rooibos. Like I said, there is little to say about this wonderful blend and I think it is a perfect tea to steep and drink during a cold day. Rating: 4.5/5. Recommendation?: Yes, definitely! Remember, don't be intimidated by the smell, it is well worth it!
Wednesday Tea-Review Day Is Coming Up!
You know this means, send in what you would like for me to write about!
What A Day!
Today I went to a Christmas open house at one of the tea stores in my city called 'All Things Tea', they had cheese and jams and cider and hot delicious, cinnamon delight tea and it was wonderful. I bought Russian Caravan which I needed seeing as I don't have it in my teaboard (cupboard but filled with tea) which is a shocker. Can't wait to enjoy it with my mom, perhaps after my Coffee House debut on Thursday night. Need some wonderful celebratin'! Then me and my mother walked all the way to the Uptown part of our city, where we sat down in a lovely little bakery called Honey's, had some Masala Chai, split a Maple Bacon Cupcake and chatted for a good hour on how much we want to open up a cafe. Finally went to David's Tea and I was so close to buying 50g of some Hot Chocolate Chai Black tea but I figured I shouldn't. Now I get to sit back, drink some Hibiscus Rosehip herbal and write my heart out! Stay Inspired! ~Krystina.
Oh 78 followers on 'The Tea Moth'? Geezus guys, you spoil me! Hope you have a lovely day and keep on sipping that tea! <3 ~Krystina.
