I love how they communicate. When talking to (extremely vexed) Moira, Akram quotes Carl about dealing with Finch: 'We've been rattling his cage.'

And Rose, before relaying Burns' connection to Finch, checks with Carl, who gives her a little nod of confirmation.

Doolally or not, they are indeed a team. ❤

WIP Wheneversday

I really am still working on my Broken Psychic Carl Morck fic, if anyone still cares! The last two weeks have been taken up with minor illness and various social things, but I'm chipping away at it. Proof of life:

"And you found out all this how?" Carl demands.

"I asked local law enforcement," says Rose, beaming. "Really nicely. You should try it sometime."

"Nah, you don't want to see that," Hardy advises her. "It's like watching a snake try to smile without showing its fangs. You don't know whether to be more frightened or embarrassed for it."

Carl thrusts out a middle finger in the direction of the laptop without looking over. "Sounds like a lot of small town gossip to me. Speculation, rumours…I mean, you did great, Rose, don't get me wrong," he adds, clocking Akram's disapproving expression and Hardy's significant cough. "What about what Liam Taylor said—about Merritt stopping her abilities somehow? And what sort of powers did she have, anyway, were you able to find out?"

"The constable didn't know anything about that, and I couldn't sense anything, either. If it was to do with the assault on William, she wasn't on the island for long after that. And, yeah, it's kind of funny, actually, but he said Merritt was an empath."

"Funny," Carl says flatly. "In what way?"

"Och, you know. From what we've heard, she wasn't exactly the caring type. Except when it came to William, I suppose. Everyone else says she was, you know. Bit callous." Rose looks round at the three silent men. "What?"

Akram clears his throat. "This is a common misconception about empaths, I believe. Most of them have had to develop significant emotional shields, which can make them difficult for other people to deal with."

"Oh aye," says Hardy. "Empaths are fucked."

Carl shoves back his chair and begins to pull on his coat. "I think it's time for another field trip," he announces.
