Please tell me everything about your OC Lacey/Artie. I need to know!!! Sonic Robot OCs are the best. I went through your blog and couldn't find anything on them :(
Hello! Thank you so much for your ask! Artie & Lacey (One character, two names, two sets of pronouns interchangeable at will, so for ease I will just alternate instead of using both) are a character I created for a Sonic themed TTRPG I run for a few friends! That's why there aren't many posts about them, haha. The system is called Rings and Running Shoes and it's super fun. Anyways, I'll take this chance to give a rundown of Artie's backstory, and his appearances in the campaign! The player characters are Loop the Ringtail, Phos the Pink Fairy Armadillo, and Scarab the Scrapmech, so you'll see those names in the backstory.
*ahem*
Lacey is an Artificial Chaos! Lacey was built by GUN and Gerald Robotnik, and was deployed onto the Space Colony ARK 50 years ago. Where she stayed, until Sonic & gang's journey up there, about two years ago (Using the Sonic timeline I made). While there, Sonic destroyed her- or at least, her physical body. Her consciousness remained, floating through the cloud. She travelled down to the planet below, the sheer amount of robotic energy drawing her towards Scrapnik Island. There, she inhabited the first abandoned badnik shell she could find. However, it did nothing. She couldn't get it to turn on.
Cut to the present day. Or, near enough the present day, anyway. Artie has been existing in the cloud for a while, trying to find another form, without much luck. However, one day, he is floating around the ruined Death Egg of Scrapnik, and it begins to rain. One of the scrapniks seeks shelter inside, though still wet. Artie has an idea, and pushes his consciousness inside of the Scrapnik. It works. Artie takes control. He begins to get feeling for his new body, but after a moment, the differences in their programming cause an error, and Artie is booted from the system. Over the next few days, Artie keeps possessing scrapniks wet from the rain, and the same thing occurs. Sigma begins sending out search parties to search for the missing scrapniks, but they never come back.
Setting out on their journey to follow the villainous Professor Kookoo, Loop, Phos, and Scarab arrive at Scrapnik Island, stopping in to see Sigma. Scarab, while created by GUN, lived for a time on Scrapnik, and so is showing Loop and Phos its home for the first time! However, when they arrive, the place is abandoned, except for E-117 Sigma. Sigma greets the trio, and explains their plight. Eager to help, Scarab, Phos, and Loop head into the Death Egg to search for the missing Scrapniks.
Along the way, they encounter Mecha Sonic, who is hostile, and attacks them. This is unusual, and after being subdued, the team figure out that Mecha Sonic had been temporarily possessed by some sort of... ghost... program. Journeying deeper into the Death Egg, they find the Scrambled Egg Carrier, a hole in the Death Egg above them letting the rain come through, coating the trio. As they are about to enter, Scarab stops moving. It has lost control of its movement. It has been possessed. The Artificial Chaos speaks with Scarab's voice, tells them how it has been trapped, how it needs a new body. Loop and Phos try to reason with it as it fights them, but Scarab talks to it from inside its programming. Explains how they are willing to help. The Artificial Chaos is calmed, Scarab allowing them to exist inside of Scarab's body, as long as they can share control.
Finding the rest of the Scrapniks, Sigma joins the trio in the Scrambled Egg Carrier, allowing the Artificial Chaos to pass through to his body to communicate with him, detailing how they can be fixed. However, their programming goes rogue, and Sigma attacks the team. Fighting him off, the Artificial Chaos is calmed once again.
It had turned out, that as Artificial Chaoses are made to harness water to create their form, that they were incompatible with other types of robots- unless they were connected to water, hence possession only working in the rain. Using this information, as well as schematics of their original form and detail of how they would like to be, Phos took charge on making a new body, Sigma helping out. The Artificial Chaos possessed it, and harnessing water to flesh out their body, they had a new form once again. They decided to head out into the ocean to find new land and discover who they were as a person, now free of their base programming and hostile defensive impulses.
We did not see the Artificial Chaos for a long time. The team was in Apotos when Scarab was standing in the shallow waters of Windmill Isle's beach, when The Artificial Chaos' voice suddenly appeared in its head. As Scarab had been possessed by them, they were now connected, though only when Scarab is touching water. The Artificial Chaos told Scarab that they had been kidnapped, abducted. By G.U.N.. The team set off to Central City immediately, to rescue their friend.
Phos and Scarab snuck into G.U.N.'s HQ, while Loop made distraction in the engineering warehouses outside. They found the experiment room, where the Artificial Chaos was being kept, and using some quick-thinking and Loop's aforementioned distraction, set the Artificial Chaos free. Escaping from G.U.N.'s HQ, they were met with heavy force outside, and were saved by an unfamiliar figure, one from Scarab's past- a giant mutated Stick Insect named Peram (Who I won't go into in too much detail here). Hiding out in Peram's mouth as he fled the city, the Artificial Chaos finally took form again, showing the team who it now was-
(Art by @cat-dragron !!!)
Lacey explained that she had found herself in Central City, and observed all of the people around- there were so many of them, of all different types, and they all looked so different! So, she had decided, that she didn't just want one name and appearance- she wanted two! So, Lacey (She/her) and Artie (He/him) were born. The team fled Central City, Peram vowing to meet them again, telling them to find him in the ruins of Prison Island, as Loop, Phos, Scarab, and Lacey made their way to New West Side Island- the home of Cream the Rabbit.
The team took some time to recoup, but eventually had to head on their way- however, Artie decided to stay on New West Side, Vanilla, Cream, and Gemerl taking him in. Though, Gemerl was understandably skeptical to housing a former GUN Robot that GUN was actively looking for. Artie stayed with them for a few days, exploring the island and settling down in Water Palace (Sonic Rush). During that time, Cream brought Artie some lemonade to try. They weren't sure about it at first, but had Cream pour a little bit onto them, absorbing it into the rest of their watery form. Surprisingly, they could taste it! Or, experienced sensations that they believed comprised the sense of 'taste'. Immediately, Artie contacted Scarab, and transmitted the sensory readings to them through code, allowing Scarab to also experience taste. This was a very formative experience for him. Eventually, though, Artie set off for Prison Island, to meet Peram and help him in his quest to reclaim the island from GUN and get revenge for GUN ruining the island in the past, depriving Peram's family of their home. In the very last session we played, the team finally arrived at Prison Island, meeting up with Artie and Peram to continue on in this quest!
So. Yeah. That's a. Somewhat though not overly brief rundown of Artie and Lacey's appearance in the campaign. Though, there is more to them, of course! Just a couple of days ago I actually wrote a 6K word fic about Artie's first visit to Central City, where he formed his identities. He made two friends in Ally the Marmoset, and Ollie! He spent time with them at a local skatepark, learning more about the people of the world, and himself! Of course, before he was abducted by G.U.N.. That's why he has a skateboard in his ref, haha.
Thank you so so much again for your ask! I really enjoyed getting to talk about Artie & Lacey, a character I love SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much! If you have any more questions, please reach out!!!!
Also must mention the wonderful players of my game, who helped bring this story to life with the decisions their characters made. Loop the Ringtail - @astrophysician Phos the Pink Fairy Armadillo - @mintenby Scarab the Scrapmech - @squiggl3
