Critter Army Census Entry

My submission for @team0nster. Just started my first Campaign after a few years. He’s a newbie so lots of room to grow. (Sorry if it’s too long. My writing side of me gets a hold sometimes)

Character’s Name: Skaemon Naeleris

Gender: Male

Race: Tiefling

Class: Paladin

Appearance: Stands as 5′11″. He has Silver eyes with a light red skin tone. His horns are similar to that of an elk, an average length and pointed. His tail is about 4′5″. He has very long, purple hair that reaches around his mid back.  Usually keeps it long and flowy instead of tying it up, although if things get serious, he would tie in a rough man bun. He wears heavy chain mail and some dark blues and purples color clothes. 

Level: 2

Stats: STR: 18 DEX: 14 CON: 15 INT: 13 WIS: 14 CHA: 18

Backstory: Skaemon’s father was a Tiefling while his mother was a human. As most Tieflings are shunned from society, they tend to lean towards thieves guilds and assassins for hires. However, Skaemon’s father, Dharthor, became a merchant. He tried to fight against the the stereotype of “evil” Tieflings. It was during one of his travels that he met his soon to be wife Priscilla Miang, after he provided her a greater healing potion for free to help her sick mother.

Two years later, Skaemon was born, and the family settled down in a city named Sippar. They had hired a a halfling named Linnan Leafwing to help run the clerk table of the family’s shop, which proved to be beneficial. They had also given temporary shelter to a homeless adventure called Galdhur “Demon Scar,” who in turn taught Skaemon about the lessons of combat. Skaemon’s mother was a religious woman, who was always fascinated by multiple gods. She soon worshiped Trithereon, the god of freedom and retribution. She believed that Tieflings would soon seek retribution against those that hurt them, and the freedom to walk about the earth, free of being stereotyped.

One day, a mysterious Elven nobleman named Sir Akum met with Dharthor. He was a man who was known for taking small business and building them into very wealthy businesses. After several meetings, Sir Akum would meet at the the family’s home, which was located just above their shop. Skaemon left to purchase some items for the house. When he arrived back home, he saw his shop and home burning. He stood there all night, watching everything he knew and loved, burned to ashes. Once the fire was quelled, he entered his ruined childhood home. After finding his parents in the dining room, a burnt corpse, something didn’t seem right. With his father being a Tiefling, he should've been immune to fire. Realizing foul play must’ve been involved, he sought after the only name he could know, Sir Akum. 

Before he left, something caught his eye, the one thing not to be burned in the fire. His mother’s holy necklace of Trithereon. He put it on and swore on that he would gain revenge for his family’s murder. 

Other Info: Skaemon is very limited on who he trusts. He travels the land, usually selling his sword (and by sword as in his giant Halberd) for hire. He doesn’t really have any special weapons. However, he always keeps his Scimitar, for that was given to him by his teacher Galdhur. Skaemon is terrified of fire (for good reason) but on many occasions has to fight against this fear of fire. His main trait (and my personal favorite to work with) is that after his parents murder, he doesn't have so much faith on the gods. Though he is devoted to one, he constantly second guesses himself on if they’re people to be trusted. Currently age 33

Class: Paladin of Devotion

Appearance: Thick dark brown beard and thick brown hair with a long grey streak through his hair. He wears an eyepatch over his left where a visible scarred gash can be seen from under his eyepatch. He is a weathered and tanned man, with some years on him, clocking in at 35 years old.

Level: LVL 5 at 7750 EXP

Stats: STR: 21, DEX: 16, CON: 16, INT: 13, WIS: 15, CHA: 22

Backstory: Murdoch Parvaiz Ozden was but a lowly carpenter from the town of Hampstead of Toldarion. He has lived in Hampstead all his life and all would tell you that he was indeed a virtuous man, Ilmater god of endurance, allowed him to keep his virtues even on the roughest of days. He was 24 years old when the attacks began, a self proclaimed "Ogre King" named Zarog, had gained a following of goblins within the Mistwood Forest. It wasn't as bad at first, things like wheelbarrows, empty barrels and general refuse would be taken, but then the attacks began to spread to neighboring towns and villages. Goblins weren't a huge threat as they were small and could be easily dispatched, but their presence became a great and immediate threat when many of Hampstead's townsfolk became infected with Stone Fever. The Ogre King had amassed a band of Goblins and Orcs along his side, conquering the Western side of the Mistwood Forest. Taking the disease as a prime opportunity the Ogre King raided Hampstead, but were fought off by the militia of Hampstead that Murdoch had so readily volunteered for. The town suffered many losses. Ilmater taught that during the darkest times you must endure and see it through, but Murdoch did not want to endure any longer. Murdoch was ready to stamp out this threat, after rallying 6 other able bodied men and women Murdoch led them into the Mistwood forest until they found a nearby encampment that consisted of Orcs and goblins. It took but a night and a day, every last Orc and Goblin were slain and the goods reclaimed from the encampment. After about 6 months of enduring the town of Hampstead overcame the Stone Fever with the help of government agents. Over the course of those months Murdoch and his fellow compatriots were celebrated as the Heroes of Hampstead; travelers were invited from all neighboring towns to revel in their presence. In the next two years Murdoch quickly fell in love and married an Ilara Melvil from a nearby town, they were married for only two years when she gave birth to Faith, their Tiefling daughter. After giving birth to this "demon", Ilara would only survive for two more days as the horror and shock would take her life. The townspeople tell Murdoch multiple times that this demon child is nothing but the most ill of omens, they tell him to drown it, bury it alive, burn it; anything just get it out of hear. So Murdoch happily obliges, he takes his daughter wraps her up in a pack and he says good bye to a couple of close friends and leaves Hampstead. It has now been two years since he has found an actual home, with his daughter Faith as his only companion. After investigating mysterious disappearances and activities in the long abandoned ghost town of Craven, Murdoch was able to clear a cultist group with the help of his Thief Companion Avery. They were able to travel through to the deepest reaches of Craven and killed the source of the evil.

Other Info: Murdoch Parvaiz Ozden sold his soul to a fiend in order to guarantee the safety of himself and Faith as long as they are together. Selling his soul also allowed to become stronger and allow a Demonic Power to influence his reflexes once a day.

Race: Half-Elf

Class: Druid

Appearance: Tall lanky half-elf with long hair, kept either in a single braid with a spiked leather strap or partially loose with many braids through it. Their hair used to be black, but is currently blond. They wear a dark green loose tunic shirt with dark brown pants, a pitch black cloak and a bright yellow hat with bunny ears. When the hood of the cloak is drawn up it covers their face in shadow, showing only bright red glowing eyes.

Backstory: Korryn grew up in the Haven’s Grove druid colony, with their sister and brother.Their human mother and elven father were members of the colony. Korryn is the middle child, and shares a father with her brother. They bonded with a dog named Farryn, and as they grew up they met another half elf named Alaiyah. They had a child with Alaiyah, a half-elf girl named Elzenya. They lived happily as a family of three, soon to be four until the grove was attacked by goblins. Korryn and Alaiyah defended their home, and a spell Korryn cast went horribly wrong. Elzenya was deafened, and Farryn, Alaiyah and their unborn child were lost. Lost themself, Korryn left Elzenya in the care of Alaiyah’s parents and set off on a journey to find themself. They met up with Nymora, a human ranger, as well as others in the years until a magical force took them to a dark room with a group of adventurers. They joined this group, which eventually became known as the Lavender Scented Adventurers.

Other Info: Korryn is currently bonded to a scottie dog named Stanley that they met in their adventures. Their usual weapon is a +1 scythe, which paired with their cloak can be very intimidating. Within the party, they have become “bros” with Voog the dwarf paladin, and have feelings for Nym, the ranger they met on their solo adventures. While flirting, they tend to change into animal form, usually something small and cute. This also happens when they’re embarrassed.

Appearance: Usually disguised as a 5’6” human with green eyes, dirty blond hair, and green eyes. Actual form is a doppleganger gray skin, no hair, and milky white eyes.

Backstory: Oti was born into a small bandit coven of doppelgangers, slightly outside of a town by the name of Bakster. He never met his parents and was raised by the coven. He was often mistreated by the bandit coven, due to his small size and awkward nature. Due to this, he ended up spending his time watching the humans of the town in their everyday business. He became fascinated with human culture and ideas, especially their hatred of the doppelgangers, whose coven would often attack, rob, and wreak havoc on the poor town. He began to resent the doppelgangers and to develop some self-loathing for being one. When he was five years old, he was watching the town as usual after the coven refused to share any of their food with him and he ran away. That day a party of adventurers arrived, which included the first elf and the first dwarf he ever saw. The mayor of the town hired the adventurers to hunt down the coven of doppelgangers that had been plaguing them. Oti followed the adventurers through their trek to the coven where he lived all his life and watched as they subdued the entire coven with ease, liberating all the town members the coven had enslaved. The adventurers began to search around for any members of the coven they missed and Oti realized that if he didn’t think quickly he would die like the rest of the coven, so he shifted into a boy that he remembered from the town. Pretending to be another prisoner of the coven, Oti approached the adventuring party. He claimed he was an orphan and had nowhere to go. The party took to the little boy and adopted him. He joined them on their journeys and listened to all their stories. He especially grew to like the group’s fighter, a 20-something human by the name of Rayona. After spending two months travelling with the party, they arrived in the homeland of Rayona, Leoto, a peaceful kingdom known for their good leaders, King and Queen Kana’a, as well as their trade. Rayona asked her parents, Count and Countess Hayan, to raise Oti. While they were uncertain at first, they eventually agreed to their daughter’s request, leading to Oti starting his new life as the foster child of a noble. After living such a rough life as a member of the doppelganger coven, rarely getting enough food, the transition to living the life of a nobleman’s child was a little challenging at first for Oti. Having never received any formal schooling, he was a little slow at first in his classes, but after a while he begun to eat up all the information he could gather from the lessons. He was eager to please his new family and to learn all he could about human culture. While they were at first a little uncomfortable around this very eager, strange child, they soon grew to care about him. He kept his true identity secret, knowing how humans felt about doppelgangers and also lying to himself, pretending that he was human. At age ten, after keeping his form maintained for so long, editing it every so often to give himself the appearance of aging, he fell ill with a serious fever. The intensity of fighting the illness resulted in him losing control of his physiology, reverting back to his doppelganger form in front of his entire foster family. After his fever broke, he awoke to his entire family staring at him. He stared down at himself and broke down, telling them everything. He told them that they didn’t need to worry about killing him, because he would leave. His foster mother, Countess Hayan, stopped him from leaving, pulling him into a tight hug. She said to Oti that it didn’t matter to her what Oti was because he was still Oti to her and that she wanted him to stay because he was her son. She then told him and Alissa to not tell anyone the truth because everyone wasn’t as understanding. Oti wept as he held onto her dress. He finally had a home. Oti continued to live with the Hayans, the secret binding him to the family even more. He continued his lessons in history and various other academic subjects. He also continued his training from earlier as a rogue. While he didn’t like the idea of stealing from people, he was very skilled and did enjoy the rogue’s style of fighting. He started to spend more time with the other children of the court, not just Alissa. He soon became the best friend of the Crown Prince, Stephan. At the age of 15, he told the truth to Stephan of his nature. The prince wasn’t upset or shocked by this news, but excited instead, he decided that they must have fun with this new information. He had Oti shift to look just like him and then to go to one shop at one end of town, while he went to another. He had Oti get fitted for a new suit as him, while he stole some sweets from the bakery. When the baker saw him eating the sweets, she went straight to the king and queen and demanded that she would be repaid for the sweets and that the prince apologize to her. The prince got off scott-free by claiming that he couldn’t have been stealing the sweets because he was getting fitted for a suit across town. The tailor confirmed this because he saw Oti there as the prince getting fitted. Oti felt bad for the baker and repaid her secretly the next night using his rogue’s skills. Stephan and Oti grew even closer after this and Stephan also told Oti a secret, that he was engaged to a princess from the kingdom over, Aurella. He told him that he hated the princess and that if he had to marry her, he would run away. Oti agreed that he would help Stephan run away if Stephan needed to if the prince could help him with something, something he hadn’t told anyone he wanted, not even his family, turning himself into a human. When the prince turned 20, Aurella arrived in the kingdom for the first time in fourteen years. King and Queen Kana’a had Stephan spend as much time as possible with his fiancée. Stephan told Oti that he hated the princess even more now; she was entitled, boring, and creepy. Outside of his time spent with the princess and his other princely duties, Stephan spent the rest of his time with Oti, researching ways to cure Oti of his doppelganger nature. Oti also took up a job with his language teacher, Maronaco, and gained a little bit of his own personal funds. One day, Stephan burst into Oti’s history lesson, demanding that Oti come at once. Once the teacher let Oti out, Stephan told him that he had found a fortuneteller from a foreign land in the market who knew how to cure him. Stephan brought him to the market to a tiny dark red tent. Inside the tent an ancient woman sat. She said her name was Madame Allera and that she knew of Oti’s true nature and that she knew how to make him human with the right artifact. At first, Oti was angry with Stephan for telling the stranger his secret, but he soon grew excited to become a human. Madame Allera told them that in order to “cure” Oti, she needed an artifact from the castle’s treasury, Morbav’s Cage. Oti was so desperate to become human that he agreed to steal the artifact right away. Using his rogue training, he and Stephan got into the treasury and out with being seen. They brought Morbav’s Cage, a deep red crystal ball back to Madame Allera. Madame Allera took the orb and asked for Oti to stand next to her and Stephan to walk into the center of the room. Only after moving next to Madame Allera did Oti notice the circle of runes carved into the floor surrounding the prince. Suddenly, neither of them could move. The illusion surrounding Madame Allera’s form dissipated, revealing her to be Aurella. She shattered the crystal with her fingers, the dust from it magically floating down into each of the runes and filling them each neatly to the brim. The runes started to glow red and a dark smoke poured out of them and forced themselves into the Prince’s body. Oti recognized this from his studies as a demonic possession. He pushed his way through the spell holding him in place and threw one of his daggers at Aurella. She raised her hand, stopping the dagger in mid-air, not even looking over at Oti. He realized that this was a very powerful and very dangerous being. She smiled as the smoke finished entering Stephan’s body. He opened his eyes, the green now a deep dark red. He whispered in a voice that was Stephan’s, but also not Stephan’s, “You did it my child, now let us continue.” Both Aurella and Stephan both vanished into thin air. Now able to move freely, Oti realized he needed to warn the king and queen. He ran to castle and burst into the throne room, to see the entire court including his foster parents, Alissa, the king and queen, Prince Stephan, and Aurella. Aurella was giving a tearful story about how Stephan had saved her from a doppelganger that tried to kill her and take her place to steal the throne. She said that Oti Hayan had been a doppelganger this entire time and that count and countess Hayan had made a deal with this doppelganger in exchange that they would receive a large part of the kingdom when the doppelganger took it. The king and queen believed her and Oti and his entire family were arrested. Oti told his family everything that happened except the role of his desire to become human had played in the events. Count Hayan told Oti and Alissa to escape and let Rayona know what happened. Countess Hayan cast a spell on Oti and Alissa, teleporting them to their home. Before leaving, Alissa ran off to her room without Oti, and Oti heard various things smashing and breaking and tearing. Alissa left the room carrying a backpack with a bedroll tied to the outside and some various other traveling items strapped to her clothes. Alissa lead Oti to a suit of armor in a hallway, lifted the helm, and a hidden door opened up adjacent to it. After slipping inside, right before the door closed the royal guard could be heard pounding on the front door. The passage led Alissa and Oti outside the city walls through another hidden door that could only be opened from the inside, and they escaped into the nearby forest to avoid the guards. They have been on wandering since. They escaped with their lives, but the royal guard killed Oti’s parents the next day for treachery. Oti and Alissa are currently on the run from the kingdom that they used to call home. Their goals are to learn more about this Morbav and what Aurella wants, Find Rayona and warn her, free the kingdom and Stephan from Aurella and Morbav. Oti desires to become human, help good people, protect the innocent, and to build his skills so he can be ready to fight.

Character’s Name: Keth Soban (Gentleman Adventurer!)

Appearance: Tall, noble features, startling blue eyes and a full mane of blonde hair: Keth looks almost like the painting of him.

Level: 1...so yeah, near death by numerous vengeful squirrels

Stats: STR 16, DEX 11, CON 12, INT 11, WIS 13, CHA 15

Backstory: Keth Soban. The man. The Myth. THE LEGEND...or so he tells it. He grew up in a noble family that was the oldest type of money, and so never really needed for anything in his entire life. The finest tutors, the best schools, and of course plenty of time to wander through the family estate exploring.

It was at this impressionable age that Keth fell upon an old history of the Soban family. Its earliest entries were rather dusty tales of wind merchants who bought vineyards and so on. And had Keth's interest not lasted a mere fraction of a second longer, he would not have seen where the family's original wealth came from.

Reward money. Big reward money. Big, dragon slaying, town saving reward money. A century before an earlier Soban had been an adventurer of such prowess and skill he had amassed the original Soban fortune, and still had time to sire a large and robust family tree. Keth’s free time became a quest to find out more and more about this distant ancestor, and over time this quest for knowledge turned into a sure and undeniable urge.

Keth was no merchant! He was a hero! A hero of the people! Friend to the downtrodden, and lowly commoner alike. And so with business cards in his pockets, and money charitably donated to the cause (He was a Soban, so taking from the family account wasn’t exactly stealing per sa) Keth became a so prescribed Paladin...to himself.

Other Info: His business card he hands out at every tavern “Keth Soban, Gentleman Adventurer! Demons Defeated! Vampires Vanquished! Dragons Defeated! Reasonable Rates, No Druids.”

Sorry for the length guys, I’m the type to give my characters long, elaborate backstories before I even know their name

Character’s Name: Anna (no given surname)

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Class: Fighter

Appearance: Mid-to-late 30’s in age. Relatively short, with a stocky, muscular build. Medium toned skin (we would call her “ethnically ambiguous”), dark brown eyes. Thick hair, black with premature strands of grey running through it, which she keeps in a tight crown braid around her head so it can fit under her helmet.

Level: Currently 4

Stats: Str 18, Dex 16, Con 17, Int 9, Wis 14, Cha 15

Backstory:  Anna grew up on a farm on the outskirts of her kingdom. She had a simple and happy childhood with her parents and extended family, and never dreamed of having more. One day, when Anna was in her mid to late teens, she and her mother took produce to the farmer’s market in an adjacent town, and came back to find their small town razed, and everyone who lived there slaughtered. Another kingdom, led by an evil king, was invading theirs, and Anna’s was one of the first towns destroyed.

Anna and her mother became refugees, and eventually her mother found work as a farmhand in another town, further from enemy lines. But Anna could not be happy resuming her simple life. Despite her mother’s pleading to stay and be safe, she enlisted in the army, determined to drive the enemy from their borders so what happened to her would never befall another. Anna soon found that her strong, athletic build, honed from years of hard farm labor, made her well suited to army life, and she quickly rose through the ranks to the position of Sergeant, known for her skill at keeping her men alive. Anna fought in the army for nearly a decade, sending financial support and occasional visits to her mother, as the war drew on and on, becoming harder and more brutal by the year.

During that time, she fell in love with a recruit who served under her, and despite regulations began a secret relationship with him. When the war finally ended, they pooled their savings from their soldier’s pay to buy a small farm in the adjacent kingdom, and were married. Anna decided it was finally time to settle down, take care of her mother in her advancing age, and raise a family. She bore two children, and for a time hoped they could be happy. But the war had broken something within her gentlehearted husband, and he was never quite the same as the idealistic young soldier she had known. He fell into a depression, and began drinking more and more heavily. Anna tried to help him, but in the end she could only watch as he slipped farther away. He began not only drinking but gambling, and eventually put them in so much debt they were forced to sell the farm. Overcome with guilt for failing his family, Anna’s husband took his own life.

With their remaining funds, Anna moved her family to a smaller house in the city. Left with two children and an aged mother to support, and with nothing but her old army equipment, Anna decided it was time to put on her old armor, and once again take up her sword and shield. Leaving her children in her mother’s care, she set off to become as an adventurer.

 Other Info: Soldier background, Lawful Good alignment, Protection fighting style, battlemaster archetype. In battle, Anna seeks to protect and support her allies with her shield and martial training.

Has two children. Alia, age 9, is a bright and adventurous girl who loves bugs. Emond, age 6, is timid and intelligent. Anna’s adventuring career is sparse enough to allow her to visit them often, and her fellow adventurers have basically become honorary aunts and uncles.

Appearance: Ion is around 6′0″, with light blue eyes and black hair. His skin is extremely pale with yellow splotches. His pale features look generally sunken and sick, and his skin can easily peel off, revealing a thick layer of rotting, diseased, and damaged flesh.

Level: 5

Stats: Str: 8 Dex: 18 Con: 15 Int: 9 Wis: 12 Cha: 18

Backstory: Ion was a young, handsome, well-liked, and optimistic student at a school for artists. He was a decent painter and could have been a famous artist if not for what happened. One night, he fell ill. It started out as minor coughing, then queasiness, then paleness, and then his flesh and skin began to partially rot. The disease never got any worse for him, but it did spread to his classmates and professors, who soon were dead from the plague. Ion desperately searched for doctors, yet none of them could identify it and all of them caught it and died. He eventually figured out that his illness wasn't any natural one, but one forced upon him by something more powerful than him. He learned to control the illness, so he didn't kill everyone he met. He also figured out how to utilize his curse to cast divine spells, sending out rays of disease formed from the pus inside him. He does have a way with words, but his appearance can make it more challenging to convince people of things. He is not very strong, but generally has decent reflexes. He wishes he could live a safely and just enjoy life, but that is not going to be a option for a long time. He feels many regrets and hates what has happened to him. 

Other Info: This character is from a pathfinder game I play. The class only exists in pathfinder. Oracles cast cleric spells, have a unique curse that gives them disadvantages, and also can gain powerful abilities called revelations. His alignment is True Neutral.
