In world 4 Ringabel did it just to see if he could, if people would really think he and this Alternis fellow were the same person. World 4 Alternis is puzzled by a small debt of 200 pg, but it's easily paid off and dismissed as something he must have incurred while incognito once. World 3 Alternis is...ha, ha, ha. ._. LUCKILY FOR THE DEBTORS, I GUESS, RINGABEL WAS TOO DISTRACTED BEING TRAUMATIZED TO ABUSE ALTERNIS' CREDIT. Much. World 2 Alternis is greatly vexed because wtf are these debts for huge dinners? These all sound like great restaurants that Edea might love but he didn't take her to them wtf is going on??? In world 1 Ringabel realizes they're going to see things through to the very end so that they can confront "the true evil" never mind that they all promptly forget this like dimwits in the true end and he doesn't know what happens when Airy's plot is completed but he figures he might as well live like the world will end tomorrow because YOU KNOW, IT JUST MIGHT World 1 Alternis is only saved from bankruptcy from the fact that Tiz twigged on that Ringabel was spending WAY more than could be explained by his allowance and Edea and Tiz both sat Ringabel down for a little talk along the lines of "we're worried you're doing something illegal, so if it's illegal please stop. If it's legal Edea wants in on the action". World 1 Alternis is still deep enough in debt that when Praline a la Mode sees what he looks like without armor and insists he be a backup dancer for her next tour, he does not exactly say no. They're all banned from various libraries, because Ringabel is terrible about remembering to return his...romantic readings.

So is your story in outline stage? or is it actually pretty written?

It’s still in outline stage. Actually writing things? Never something I’m quite ‘ready’ to do. The plot itself has a pretty stable skeleton, but each individual arc’s events is still foggy. Oddly, the first and only thing I really do have written down on a blow-to-blow basis is the final fight. That, too, is against a villain wielding power over time, but I like to think it’s a lot better-done than Zeref.

I unno, I feel like Alegria's was utterly ruined by the jumpsuit, which I'm not even sure is a jumpsuit. It clashes with the rest of the look because everything else is thorns/armour plating and then theres this giant, sexual space (even though there are't any details to draw eyes the shading is clearly meant to be sexual). There should have been something there to conceal the boobs/mesh with the look imo. Hiro also missed the chance to make something Cthulhuesque, instead making cubes curve.

There are ways it could be better, yes. But by Hiro Mashima’s standards, this is downright tame. And after four successive Satan Souls which just looked like bad halloween costumes and really made the whole “she-demon” thing fall flat, this one was far and away the best one. Maybe it just works better for me than it does for you?

I will freely remark that half the reason I'm reading ft right now is to see how much plot Mashima rips from ur blog. It's even more tense than the actual manga!

Though I doubt it’ll happen, I really hope Mashima uses at least half of it. I want my $10 damnit, it’s the least he can give me after all this time and suffering.

I think one of the reasons why this arc is s annoying is that none of it seems to have a point? Like, all the plot points introduced are discarded later! Wendy belserion? Done. Universe one? Done. I mean, the deaths are just another example of this. and it makes it feel really padded because even though the villains are dispatched so quickly its just all pointless?

Exactly. It feels like Mashima was just checking plot points off a to-do list. “Invel. Check. Gruvia moment. Check. Gray vs Natsu. Check. NaLu and Gruvia, check.”

The worst part of all of this is that none of these plot points have any lasting impact. Eileen got dragged around for literal months and at the end of the day nothing in her arc has any relevance to anyone or anything. She didn’t do anything that had any lasting effects - she didn’t get Fairy Heart, none of her enchantments stuck, she barely assisted her army, no one cared about her backstory, she couldn’t catch Acnologia’s attention when he was literally around to kill Dragon Slayers and, most damningly, she failed to make Erza give half a damn about her. It’s really kind of sad. 

Natsu vs Gray? Despite the hype Mashima absolutely refused to give the matter any depth - the fight ends because Erza says so, and that’s that. Even the “Natsu’s tumour” mess got dealt with as anticlimactically as it started. First Brandish gets rid of it for reasons, then it comes back, and then it turns out that Natsu can get rid of both his dragon and demon seeds because he wants to, and that’s fine! Slap some NaLu at the end and no-one will care!

Sticking some shipping fodder onto the tail end of the issue to distract the shippers from the fact that what they saw was garbage and then just moving on seems to be Mashima’s main strategy this arc. 

What’s really sad is that, stupid and contrived plot points and subarcs aside (eileen), some of these plot points could have been decent if Mashima had actually spent any amount of time on them. Natsu vs Gray, the demon/dragon seeds, God Serena and Dimaria… there is some potentially decent stuff in this arc, and had Mashima bothered to spend more time fleshing out those ideas and working on them they could have actually been decent. Between the potentially decent ideas being rushed through one or two chapters and the terrible ideas they’re crammed between, this arc feels like it’s got too many things being crammed into an eighth of the time they need to be developed decently.

It’s pretty sad, honestly.

I was reading Noragami with a friend recently, and I reread a part where Kazuma honestly thought he brought misfortune on Bishamon merely by being around, and I kinda wonder if thats why he ran off...

I’m sure that’s definitely part of it. I bet he also feels guilty for betraying her/not being able to protect her/not being able to stop her vendetta/her not using him against the heavens and finding another shinki to do so (since he doesn’t know about the god’s greatest secret so to him it just seems she abandoned him)

But really, when will we ever understand what is going through Kazuma’s brain....I hope he shows up in chapter 73 so we know more about his thought process currently and can all yell at him to come home. (I also know there’s speculation that he won’t come home but I’m ignoring that)
