I wanna add to the “clunky technology is better because it’s easier to repair” thing because like… if I bought a clunkier laptop, I wouldn’t be able to take it to school with me. My dwarfism severely limits the kinds of devices I can have, so thin and lightweight is genuinely better for me.
Maybe thin devices aren’t so bad as long as all the computer parts aren’t glued to the motherboard. Maybe as long as there’s an okay number of USB ports, and an ethernet port, and at the very least a goddamn headphone jack, thin devices would be fine.
I love the sentiment in these discussions, because I hate Apple and Microsoft as much as the rest of you. But the thinness isn’t the villain here. The planned obsolescence and inability to repair your own belongings is.
