alright folks! i made it!

this discord server is for those of us involved in various types of witchcraft and are also over the age of 18! it’s a server where we can share tips, tricks, and just be able to be in a community that is supportive and uplifting!

rules:

~ you must be 18 or older ~ you must keep an open mind. putting down another witch’s craft will NOT be tolerated.  ~ respect each other’s preferred names and pronouns! ~ you can be at any level of witchcraft to join! it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or expert--don’t make someone feel like they’re less important just because they’ve only just started witchcraft.

Sigil Tips

Making sigils that are aesthetically pleasing isn’t always the easiest thing on the planent, and if you’re a perfectionist like me it can make the whole process of making a sigil a little daunting. But! I’ve found a couple work arounds that have been working for me that I’d like to share under the cut.

the Gallifreyan Alphabet

pros: it’s circular, linear, absolutely beautiful, and lets you use full sentences for your sigils, if you want to. A quick Google search brings up the alphabet and tells you how to put them together to form words and sentences, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out where to place this line or that circle. Since it’s a method of writing, it follows linear rules where to place the letters and how to read them, making it easier for people who need that structure. And, if you’re in the broom closet, you won’t be outed by your sigils. Anyone who sees these will just think you’re a massive geek! 

cons: it can get a little...chaotic looking, depending on how many words you have and how many letters are in each word. It’s time consuming if you’re a perfectionist and your circles have to be exactly circle shaped and your lines must be pin straight and so on. You look like a massive geek.

the Smart Phone Keyboard

a brief explanation: sometimes if I’m typing real fast I forget to hit the button to switch from symbols back to letters on the keyboard and end up with a sentence that looks like @)#*$&”}>|. But it’s okay, because it made me realize, duh, each of those little symbols corresponds to a letter on that keyboard and hello! could absolutely be used to make a sigil.

pros: once again, you don’t have to try to come up with your own shapes for each letter or figure out where to place this line on that square. Just match your letter to your symbol and layer them in way you like. Great for more artistically inclined witches who can look at something and say “This series of dots would look great surrounding this @ symbol!”

cons: you do still have to come up with your own base shape (like a circle or square) and you do still have to decide where to put each symbol, so it’s more chaotic. So, for example, if you’re using the letters CVDFM, they may end up placed out of order on your base shape. If you’re all about that linear structure, I wouldn’t necessarily suggest using this.

These methods are necessarily conventional, but they work, and that’s the most important part, right? If you still struggle with sigils or you’re a new witch, feel free to request one from me!

Fire playlist to stop that endless rain going on for days or to actually have it warm enough to swim when you meet up with friends. Earth playlist to amplify your grounding meditation or to help your small little seedlings grow stronger. Air playlist to help you with whistling up that breeze you need bc you're melting or to stop the storm from raging bc you need to get groceries but don't want to fly away, thank you very much. Basically just elemental playlist not as substitutes for elements because that's what I see a lot.

Let Me Just Point Something Out

((To the gatekeepers in the witchcraft community))

Just like there is electronic music, there is electronic witchcraft.

All those classical instruments? Most of them were only invented in the last, what? 300-400 years? Not particularly ancient.

Art, music, fashion, society changes. So does witchcraft, seeing as it’s part of our society.

You don’t like electronic music? Good for you. A lot of other people do.

You don’t like electronic witchcraft? Good for you. A lot of other people do.

Witchcraft can’t necessarily be quantified, so arguing to others to limit it to a few paths because it isn’t traditional is an act of gatekeeping and incredibly narrow-minded.

You have your path, others have their own. Their path isn’t yours to walk, so why are you complaining about their footsteps?
