Re Watch 3:15 Galvanize
So much happening in this episode that is quiet or in the background.
Derek seeing his mother again always takes my breath away. Hoechlin does so much with just his expression in that scene, it's chilling. I'm always so impressed by his non-verbal work.
There's the ringer shirt scene, which we haven't had an explanation for- yet.
There's Scott and Kira bonding over Sushi and Pizza. And I've got to give both actors credit on those scenes, because they could have easily gotten hammy or cheesy, but both of them manage to keep the vibe both sweet and real.
It's interesting hearing Noshiko talk about her family linage and getting married in Japan. Clearly this is a story both of them have told over the years, so they have it perfect enough to even fool Scott. (Or, she was telling the truth, but leaving out several important details)
Blue is just pretty. I do like the scene between Lydia and Stiles, and their whole relationship, and I can see how it could have been played to be romantic, but it just doesn't read that way to me. They have a great deal of trust for each other, but it's still more of a sibling thing than lovers.
I recently noticed that the actor who played Barrow, Doug Jones, also played the tallest/lead Gentleman in the Buffy episode HUSH. That's special.
So, then we all end up in the Sub-station. I'm not worrying about how Stiles found out which sub-station so quickly, because I've resolved that that's one of his special superpowers. But it is interesting watching Scott getting tossed around the place like a ragdoll. Fire and Electricity are the two big weaknesses of Werewolves in TW, and it's a continuing of the theme of Scott being helpless in this season. It's not being afraid of his Alpha powers this time, but the result is the same.
And then Stiles story is left untold. He's running in there carrying a huge conductive object, and because we don't see anything happen, we assume that nothing happens. Now, to be fair, TW isn't big on spelling out details, often times a scene isn't completely resolved, and we're forced to assume that everyone got out okay and went home.
But this time something did happen. And I'm REALLY hoping there's some footage in season 4 that talks/shows it. It's easy to say, "He got zapped" and Derek demonstrates nicely how the bat got dragged to the machine. It's easy to picture Stiles getting dragged with it- but still. I feel like there's something more, some story opportunity left to be told.
The final image is Argent and Allison banging on the door to Allison's room, where inside Isaac is getting tested by the Oni. The show played a lot with Allison being really torn on Isaac, and understandably so. A few minutes previously, Allison was telling Isaac she didn't want to kiss him or any werewolf, and now she's fearing for him. Talk about a roller coaster. But I get stuck on the visual of Allison in that pale skirt, her pale bare legs and feet, which is pretty unusual for her- Allison, even when she was striped down, almost always had her legs covered. She reminds me, especially the way she's posed, of a ballerina, but I can't exactly explain why- it's just noticeably out of the norm for her- and usually on this show that means something.
