bev and ellie vs arthur and tommy.... has anyone brought this up before i feel like they must have.
ok i cant for the life of me remember what episode its in but has anyone considered the significance of the songbirds that woman tells tommy that her husband killed. like i havent been able to really put my thoughts together in a coherent way about this but that scene is so haunting to me because of course we automatically assume that the birds are human children since thats what she refers to them as, three boys... and i need to rewatch this part but it struck me as such a sad kind of parallel to. you know. the three main shelby brothers. songbirds, singing until theyre forcefully shut up, unhinged mother, violent father, locked in their cage that they'll never escape (reminds me a lot of that arthur scene at the end of s2, where he goes 'who's going to stop us?! [to raucous cheers] and then turns and looks really deeply sad and says 'no one'). anyways im obviously not quite sure what i mean by all this but the part that really hammered it all in was when i saw the dress linda wears to kill arthur....... covered in colorful birds... and all while inside, the swan is dancing to die. like okk.
also unrelated but im so obsessed with the fact that tommy chose to have the choir sing in the bleak midwinter at his WEDDING. why would he do that.
would give my whole right arm for more info on jesses childhood becausr from what we see of his parents they seem like pretty normal if distainful people. they dont seem overly angry or threatening. even his dad is like... definitely frusterated but on an overview they seem. fine imo. and yet jesse exhibits all the signs of a kid that grew up in a really angry, loud, threatening etc household. he does the Thing where you just stand there and silently take whatever people yell at you because youve gotten to the point where you know saying anything at all will only escalate the situation, he obviously doesnt like being treated aggressively (not that anyone does but you know. what i mean) and he rarely snaps but when he does. he Does. he feels unneeded and like he cant be useful all the time, and hes very obviously wary around his parents. his self esteem is shot. and then theres his brother. literally what is a kid in a neighborhood like that at that age doing with weed. i guess you could say its from knowing jesse did it or because of all the academic stress hes obviously put under but its like..... even then thats not normal. when i saw that ep for the first time i was like what is going on here lol . so yeah.
