Newt didn't normally go out into Hong Kong proper. He mostly stayed safely tucked away in his lab in the Shatterdome, working with his guts and gore, perfectly content. But he'd been hearing rumors lately, weird ones about a Kaiju secretly residing in the city, terrorizing the citizens, and that didn't sit right with him.

For one thing, Kaiju were about the least sneaky things he could imagine. There was no way one could be rampaging around the city unbeknownst and unseen except for a few sketchy rumors and eye witness reports. And if there were, there was no activity from the Breach, nothing that proved something had escaped. It all seemed like a steaming pile of garbage.

Except there was something out there. People nowadays tended to not get worked up unless there was a reason to. So Newt had taken it upon himself to go out into the city to see if there was something to this Kaiju rumor after all.

The New Kaiju? | Hermann and Toothless

This was something he never thought would happen. A new kaiju had just been alerted by PPDC to have washed up on the shore. The only difference?

It was much smaller...and presumed to be dead. At the mention of the possible new kaiju threat, PPDC teams scrambled over to the shore, jaeger back at the bay ready should they need to strike. But once they had arrived to the scene, the kaiju was not showing any vital signs. The crew takes the kaiju specimen over to Newton Geiszler to study.

When first brought in, Hermann didn't take to much notice. But the fact that this kaiju was much smaller was...odd. Even Newt was questioning it when he was rolled into the door. Newt didn't operate on him, but merely took notes and studied the kaiju's outer features. While it did have some similarities, in really bore no resemblance to a kaiju.

This was strange. And it had Newt frustrated. If it wasn't a kaiju, then what the hell was it?

Wanting to take a break, Newt took off his gloves and walked over to the mess hall, needing some food. This left Hermann and the new "kaiju" alone for a bit.

Despite knowing that it was dead, Hermann couldn't help but feel a bit nervous. But he shouldn't have a reason to be...it wasn't going to do anything...

Right?
