the question caught her off guard. it wasn’t that she didn’t expect the question to arise at some point. given how ben didn’t like the life she had grown up on. it wasn’t for everyone and maya understood that. but it was all she really knew. before ben, she never really thought of stepping away from the lime light and just being herself. a part of her loved the money that came with it. enjoyed flying to private islands and trips whenever she pleased. buying the most expensive things and treating herself and the ones she cared about. her ‘career’ is what gave her that opportunity. did she really want to walk away from it all? did she just want to take a break? maybe she could be like those actresses that star in a few things here and there but still live the life of luxury. dropping the hair clip she had been holding, trying to fix her hair, she turned to him. “i--you, obliviously.” it was the right answer after all. a person mattered more than a career and ben mattered to her. “although, i hope that isn’t your way of giving me an ultimatum -- i don’t do well with those.” after all maya did what she wanted, always had. she was independent in a lot of ways and deciding what she wanted to do with her life was one of those things.
