Happy 11th Anniversary, TGS!

@glass-scientists by @arythusa is a wonderful webcomic with incredible and lovable characters along with spectacular artwork and writing. Despite being in this fandom for only about 6 months, I've been enthralled by this story ever since I binge-read it in two days like a sane person. Though, I'm glad I found it when I did because just a few weeks later my mental health took a major dip. Intrusive thoughts so bad that they haunted my every waking second and I could barely stand being awake only to be swallowed by them. But, imagining Hyde dealing with them helped me get through them (which is rather ironic considering he's the embodiment of intrusive thoughts, but maybe that's why it worked). Other than getting me through long hours of torture day-by-day, The Glass Scientists has inspired me to branch out more with writing and drawing, and, through that, I've had the opportunity to talk to so many wonderful people that have made me feel welcomed here and human. Truly, I am incredibly grateful for this comic, the work and love that's been poured into it, and everyone who loves this comic just as much, if not more, as me.

...Sorry, I also want to talk about the drawing really quick.

I had about five ideas circling through my brain all day for this drawing...and did none of them. They were really cool ideas, but time restraints *cough* and lack of skill *cough* made me hate my complicated sketches. Then, I just took a bunch of colors and got this. I liked how it turned out, but I do wish there was more to it. Maybe if I have more time, I'll make another anniversary drawing...but late.

Lying is a Love Language Fan Comic

Okay, I actually have a reason for this:

This is incredibly stupid, but I thought it would be funny (and, if he was in the modern day, I can totally see Hyde saying this to annoy people). I had a lot of fun making this but spent way too long on it (4 hours of my time spent making a six seven joke; what has the world become). This is also my first time making fanart for Lying is a Love Language by @quilna, and it's this. I really need to make proper fanart of it soon because it's an amazing fic. (I also kinda got lazy towards the end. Which might be because I was rushing as I did this instead of my 60 point English assignment that's due today. So, I don't know what that says about me and my priorities.)

(I'm so sorry that this is literally just a six seven joke. When you're surrounded by brain rot, it's hard to escape from it.)

TGSHalloween!

I decided to combine TGS with my favorite childhood movie Coraline! Jekyll and Hyde are both Coraline, Lanyon is Wybie, and Zosi is...the cat? Zosi's just kinda there. I was honestly inspired to do this because Zosi looks like the dogs in Coraline, but he's nothing like the cat.

(I couldn't decide on a version for this drawing, so I decided to include both of them.)

I also made a design ref because I would've been lost without one. I was also planning on adding character notes to this, but I didn't have room. (The need to rant about the themes of freedom between Jekyll, Hyde, and Lanyon is overwhelming. Like how Lanyon as Wybie gives Jekyll his first taste of freedom like he does in TGS but also takes away his freedom (with Jekyll repressing himself to become a gentleman like Lanyon / getting trapped in the other world). Then, Lanyon helps Jekyll achieve true freedom (him admitting his feelings for Jekyll and accepting Hyde / rescuing Jekyll from the clutches of the other mother). Okay, rant over. Sorry!)

And here are the first doodles I did to help get a feel for what I was going for. I was supposed to get these drawings done last week, but oh well.

Desperate for Freedom

Behold! My first drawing of Henry Jekyll! I really enjoyed drawing him! I was looking at a lot of TGS animations of Jekyll and got inspired to draw him! ...It still took me half an hour to convince myself to draw him because I got distracted with all my screenshots of TGS. I was trying to find references! It's not my fault that there's so many really cool pages that make me forget what I was doing! (I've been going screenshot crazy recently. I have most of TGS's pages screenshot. Great for references. Terrible for my attention span and phone storage. [I also have 50 screenshots of this drawing in progress alone.])

Anyhow, this was the most fun I've had with drawing in a long time! Apparently, making myself draw and having inspiration to draw are two different things. Who knew?

My favorite part to draw was the hair. I love drawing floofy hair! I'm also very happy with how the hand turned out! It, surprise, surprise, looks like a hand! (There's only one hand in this drawing. There is no other hand. If there was another hand, and if it looked bad, it's not there.) The most difficult part of this drawing was the left arm drawing Hyde as a shadow. Sage draws the shadows in such a certain way, that it was hard to figure out how to make him look right. I think he turned out alright in the end.

Bonus:

The top left version is the drawing without the effect over it. The version to the top right is from when I was first trying to figure out the general color vibe. I thought it looked cool and kept as a reminder to use it as an effect over the final drawing (at 50% opacity). The bottom left was when I was figuring out my colors. Usually, I deal with the line art first, but something in me told to start with the color. It helped me have a good idea of where I was going with the drawing. And, I think without having proper line art, I felt more free to experiment with my colors and shading. A lot of times coloring feels really stressful, so this ended up helping me. The last version is the drawing with only Shadow Hyde's layer visible. I just think it looks cool.

Anyhow, before I turn this into a twenty page essay, I just want to say that......

No, I am not avoiding drawing realistic face shapes still. I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

TGS MONDAY DOODLES!!! #2

Here's Lanyon looking on in concern as Windows gaslights me for the 67th time. (Don't worry, I eventually figure that out and get Clonezilla to copy an image...after four days.)

I doodled this while Windows was still on its gaslighting arc. This is somewhat based off of my fanfic nonsense and this piece I drew (for said fanfic nonsense). You can see that there's no notebook lines in this picture, and that's because I gave up on Clonezilla and took out my mini-sketchbook instead.

This doodle was me messing around with art style stuff for a TGS fan project that I'm considering working on. Since it's just a concept doodle, I didn't bother cleaning it up. It's supposed to be an art style that's quick and simple, anyways. I'm not sure if this project will actually happen because I have too many projects I'm working on already.

This is actually the second piece of fanart I ever drew for TGS. I found it as I was flipping through my mini-sketchbook. It's from August 21st of last year. The messy lines around his eyes are from me trying to draw his hat and failing. Multiple times. Anyhow, I bet you can never tell who my favorite character is!

I'm not sure how many doodles I'll be able to make this week because I get to figure out how a printer works, and I don't think doodling during that is a good idea. (...And, there's also the projects I still need to work on...) So, if I don't have any new doodles/drawings for next week, I'll probably just reblog some of my older TGS drawings and add some art critiques to them (I don't do that nearly enough anyways).

Curses for the Soul... Ch. 3

Fic Summary: Robert Lanyon nearly died from his last "fun adventure" with Hyde, and, yet, here he is going on another with him. And, Hyde, who desperately needs to rest after getting stabbed, still thinks that this is a good idea. Who knows? Maybe they'll find another clue about the cursed necklace that got them into this situation in the first place.

Chapter 3 ("On This Week's Episode of Dog Catchers of London...") Summary: Zosi gets more spotlight than usual, and that's saying something when you live in a large building filled to the brim with creature-adoring scientists.
