hi, i have a bug question! where i used to live in mississippi, ladybugs (or at least what looked like ladybugs) would gather in the upper corner of just about every room in the house during spring and fall and just kinda.. die, but didn't fall. we always assumed that it had something to do with them thinking our house was a nice shelter. do you have any clue what could have been going on?
They're Asian lady beetles, which are not native but have become super prolific in the US. In the fall they will look for places to cozy up and go mostly dormant for the winter, usually in large groups, and often inside houses. If the temp indoors is too warm, they won't go into their normal dormancy, and because there are no resources to sustain them indoors, they'll often just die. RIP lil beetles.
