The crown prince Jeon Jungkook is known for his problematic attitude, he’s kind of a rebel, but not in the brave way to fight for the justice for his people kind of rebel, he is just, lazy. He has no interest in being the king. His personality doesn’t match the quality needed to be a king. He himself thinks that he never suits being the ruler anyway, ever since he lost his mother the crown prince neglects his duty as a crown prince as well as the next king. As much as he neglects his study and as much as he shows a not very admirable side of him, crown prince Jeon is very clever, he can’t help it, it runs in his blood. He likes it when people thinks he has no idea about basically anything regarding the politics revolving the kingdom, but honestly he knows. He knows the minister who controls his dad from behind, using his father's trauma of what happened to his mother to make the king succumb to whatever decision he makes when in honestly it is always the decision that will bring the most benefits for the Kim's family. The majesty has no idea, or more like he decides to close his eyes, keeping his people in checks by following the minister's suggestion to avoid any more rebellious act in the future. He doesn't want the past to repeat itself, he doesn't want to lose someone's dear to him again.
The crown prince knows everything, it's not once or twice he accidentally heard the ministers and the officials talking about controlling the king, about making decision that'll make the Kim's family gain more from the country, regardless of making the people suffer more from poverty or not.
He knows, but never really care. He tries not to but deep down, the crown prince is a soft hearted. He looked up to his mother a lot, the Queen wasn’t exactly typical standardized Queen that the Kingdom would have, Jungkook believed it wasn’t in a bad way. His mother just like trying things out, something like running and dancing under the rain even though the eunuchs and the maids were all screaming in panic of fear that the queen would catch a cold, or fell and hurt herself. Jungkook was there too, muttering softly to his mother to stop and come back.
“Why? No laws said we can’t,” she simply states, Jungkook has no choice but to join his mother. He feels the wet grass under his feet, the raindrops hitting his face softly, and he dances, delicately while holding his mother’s hand. Jungkook would say it was one of the best feeling he ever felt.
Park Jimin lost his mother 10 years ago, during the lantern festival when his mother told him to hide and not to come out until his mother came for him. Jimin did as he was told, hiding under the table. He wasn't sure of why he was crying but something just made him scared, he waited and waited, but his mom never came.
And there he is, ten years later, dancing and singing in front of the crowd with his fellow performer. He strums the ropes of his Jangoo, saying the dialogues in between the music with his friend who played as the King while he plays as the maid, today’s story is about a forbidden love blossomed inside the palace. It seems to be an interesting theme as the crowd laughing and cheering in between his dialogues, he will get a lot of money today he thinks, until he hears someone yells at them.
"How dare you! How dare you performing something like this about the palace!!" the man's voice makes heads turn his way.
Realizing now everyone's attention are on him, he takes a step back. He doesn't like attracting too much attention but he can’t help the anger from overtaking his rational thinking after watching people are laughing at such degrading story about the king.
Jimin watches the man behind his mask. A very handsome young man. His dopo is clean and made of silk, a noble, a scholar perhaps.
The man seems to finally come back to his sense so he takes a step back slowly, gulping down in worry but still won’t give in any sort of defeat from the man under the mask.
“And you don’t even have a proper instrument, your Jangoo’s ropes will snap soon!” Jungkook stomps away right after.
Before Jimin manages to say anything the sound of ropes snapping from his drum robs his attention away from the retreating figure.
Jungkook sneaks out again just a week later, he sneaks out more and more often lately as he feels that the palace is too suffocating for him, he doesn’t like the tense atmosphere or the side glance given by everyone who he walked pass by, even the servants are no exception, he wonders what did they heard about him, wasn’t exactly good he’s sure.
When the sunny sky suddenly turns grim and the rain starts pouring Jungkook runs toward the rundown empty house, taking refuge in front of it. He smiles as he watches the rain pours. It reminds him of his late mother, he reaches out his hand to feel the rain drops to his palm. Jungkook wants to run right under it, taking off his hwa to run barefoot to feel the wet grass. But, the cold. He shivers as he remembers the cold he and his mother caught right after their little dancing under the rain. Jungkok shakes his head in grimace only to realize that there is someone beside him, also taking refuge from the pouring rain, but also, reaching his hand out to feel the rain, smiling like an idiot, just like himself.
Jungkook doesn’t realize how long has he been watching the guy beside him, how his eyes sparkle in wonder just from watching the rain drops on his hand, tiny hand.
When Jimin feels someone is staring dagger at him, he turns his head in instinct, he doesn’t expect to meet the man from a week ago who yells so abruptly at his play, and making the crowd dissipate soon after, this guy made Jimin lost half of his expected earning that day. But the guy seems clueless as he stares back at him, right, Jimin was wearing a mask that day. Jimin smiles to himself.
“Ehm…” Jimin clears his throat, the man seems like he’s pulled from his trance abruptly as he takes a step back to stare at Jimin, wide eyes and all.
Jimin nods while smiling softly at him, and Jungkook nods back, he might be a brat, but he’s not that rude, especially when someone so pretty is being this polite to him. No, wait, he’s a guy, but a pretty guy, Jungkook shakes his head. The rain must have made his mind fuzzy.
The rain has stopped and only left with small drizzle now.
“Why would rain falls on such a bright day,” Jimin pouts just to emphasize his point. The man besides him seems taken aback for a second from Jimin abrupt attempt at conversation but he feels it will be rude not to respond.
“Yeah, I wonder why too.” Jungkook watches as Jimin kicks some pebbles with his feet, the pout is still there gracing his face, his lips plump, soft, and pink and Jungkook has to blink away when Jimin suddenly turns to him.
“I was searching for my dog,” Jimin starts to fiddle with his fingers just to make himself look more pitiful, “but then it started to rain, I still haven’t find him.”
He feels the man beside him shifts, he walks closer until he stand beside Jimin looking at him with sympathy.
“Where did you lose him?” Jungkook finally asks. Really he’s supposed to be an arrogant brat but this, this is a puppy problem and he can’t be rude about it, he has his priority.
“Not too far from here,” Jimin eyes starts to glisten with tears, he pats himself in the back at how good he’s at it, doing the play on the street all his life seems to be a major help as he watches the man slowly but surely takes his bait.
“I want to search more but I’m very tired.”
“You should ask for someone’s help, maybe it’ll be easier with more people—“
“Will you help me sir?!” Jungkook jumps from the sudden excitement from the short man beside him.
“Thank you! Thank you so much, you’re a great help!” Jungkook hasn’t fully register Jimin’s words yet but he’s already been drags away. The firm grip on his wrist makes Jungkook unable to really decline, might as well helps the poor guy find his puppy.
Jungkook finds himself inside the woods, surrounded by trees and the slightly damp grass from the earlier downpour. Jungkook watches the short guy walks hurriedly before him.
“Here! Scholar over here!” Jimin calls as he waves at Jungkook to join him.
Jungkook hides a small smile that almost escapes his lips, he walks toward Jimin, he thinks today somehow doesn’t feel so bad, as expected sneaking out helps him clear his thought—or so he thought as he steps on a pile of wet grass, or more like he tries to step but there’s nothing to step on, and he find himself sinks down to the ground below. On panic he grabs anything near him and that include the short man in front of him. A loud unmanly shrieks echoes as both of them fall into the hole.
Jungkook falls on his butt, he let out a strangled cough from the pain also from something heavy on top of him. The man from before has his head on Jungkook’s chest, he lifts his head up to meet Jungkook’s eyes before he scrambles away from him.
And then it finally dawns on Jungkook what just happened, he sits up abruptly and grabs Jimin’s shoulder harshly. He knows it’s done purposely, this guy has known beforehand that there’s hole here.
“Why did you do that? Do you want to kill me??!” He screams his lungs out as he shakes the petite man in front of him.
“No, I-I’m just, I just want revenge,” Jimin mumbles while avoiding Jungkook’s glare.
“What?”
“You made fun of my play a week ago, I just want a payback.”
Jungkook watches him in both anger and confusion, his eyes almost pops out when he finally remembers the street play he encountered a week ago, “You, the jangoo guy?”
“Are you serious? Look what have you done!” Jungkook screams again in frustration, his clothes is now dirty, his butt hurt, also, his pride, he’s not someone who should be in a place like this, a dirt hole because of this little guy’s revenge.
“You made me lost my customer! My money…” Jimin whispers the last part.
“Why are you making a fuss over such little money, I could just give a hundred times more,” Jungkook mindlessly says that in his usual annoyed tone while he brushes some dirt on his clothes.
“I don’t need your money,” Jimin spits as he stands up and looking up, the hole isn’t too deep, probably just a little more than 2 meters, they can get out of here, no, he can get out of here.
“Get on your knees,” Jungkook stands up too, as he pushes Jimin’s shoulder harshly.
“Wait- what?” Before he’s able to say anything, Jungkook has already stepped on his back.
Jimin lets out a painful gasps as he sinks back to the ground and falls along with Jungkook.
“Geez, why are you so weak, are you even a man?”
“You’re just too heavy, must be nice being a noble eating all those food while we’re the poor suffering,” Jimin mutters under his breath as he stands only to be pushes down once more.
“Hey!” He yells his protest as he stands up, he’s had enough of this rude man.
“What? You have to take responsibility, it’s your fault we’re here!” He pushes him down once again.
“Since I’m smaller how about you lift me up first then I’ll help you after,” Jimin stretches out as he twists his hips from getting stepped on by such giant in front of him.
“No,” Jungkook folds his hands in front of his chest.
“Then we’re going to stay here all day, Scholar!” Jimin drops himself as he sits cross-legged, mirroring Jungkook as he folds his hands, two can play this game.
The thought of having to spend the day here doesn’t quiet fancy Jungkook, also he’ll get in so much trouble if the people from the palace realizes he’s outside.
Jungkook sighs in defeat, “okay, come here.”
Jimin grins as he stands up excitedly. Soon, he places both of his hands on Jungkook’s shoulder as Jungkook lifts his legs up. But Jimin is not as light as Jungkook thinks he’d be, he’s still a man despite how delicate he looks. His hands slips along with Jimin, the smaller hastily wraps his arms around Jungkook’s neck on panic as their foreheads bumps each other “ouch.”
“Geez, you’re so weak, are you even a man?” Jimin throws Jungkook’s words back at him as he pulls away from him, he still clings to the taller only to realize that their face is so, so close their nose almost touches each other’s and his legs still dangling from the ground.
Jungkook feels his breath is stuck in his throat as he studies Jimin’s face. How his eyes blinks out of shock, it’s round and pretty and he swears he has never seen any woman has eyes as beautiful as the one that stares at him right now. His nose is flat and small, and his lips, god, his lips, it’s full, pink, and seems to be so soft, Jungkook swears he doesn’t imagine how those lips tastes on his, how can a man have such lips prettier than any gisaeng has, not like he encountered many of them. Then Jungkook realizes that he has his arms wraps around Jimin’s tiny hips tightly. Jungkook won’t tell anyone that he kind of touched the man’s butt when he slipped off of him before, he won’t tell anyone that the first butt he’s ever touch happens to be a man’s one. But it surprises him how the feel of having a man in his arms doesn’t really bothers him that much.
Jungkook finally let go when he feels Jimin is squirming uncomfortably. He clears his throat while looking everywhere but Jimin, scratching his nape out of awkwardness.
“Do it properly will you?” Jimin fusses. But when Jungkook finally looks back down at him he swears he sees the pink blush across Jimin’s cheeks.
“Okay, once again,” Jungkook props Jimin’s legs up with his hands once again. This time however it’s a success as Jimin finally manages to climb out of the hole.
Jungkook heaves a relieved sighs, he hurriedly reaches his hand out for Jimin but the later just grins cheekily at him.
Jungkook tries once again, but the grin still hasn’t left, oh, oh no, Jungkook almost curses.
“Hey, lift me up,” Jungkook demands as he tries smiling as sincere as he can manage.
“I’m sorry scholar, I’m going to call someone to help you, now if you’ll excuse me,” the cheeky brat even bows to him while holding back his laughs and starts to stand up.
“Hey, no, just lift me up, we agreed on this.”
“You’re going to beat me up if I help you now.”
“No, no, I already forgive you, just-just help me, okay?” Jungkook almost sounds like he’s begging, still with his hands reaches out waiting for Jimin to take it.
Jimin pretends to contemplate his decision before he shakes his head, faking regret as he stands up and dusts off some dirt from his clothes and starts to move away.
Jungkook watches in horror, he loses all his patient, so much for trying to help someone searching for their puppy and so much for helping them out of the hole, that’s why Jungkook should just stick being a brat, it’s much easier.
“I’m sorry, next time we meet you can have your revenge, I’ll do anything, I’ll even be your pet, but for now I win,” Jimin covers his hand with that damned tiny hand (Jungkook’s words not mine) to hide his little victorious laugh.
“YAH!” he screams his lungs out in frustration as Jimin’s figure retreats from the hole, he can’t see him anymore but he knows he still able to hear him, “you’re going to regret this, come back here this instant, yah!! Do you know who I am???! YAH!!”
Jeon Jungkook is probably going to forget anything ever happened if the help that Jimin promised him come soon. But no, someone only come to help him when the sun almost sets and he doesn’t even sure whether they come because Jimin told them to or just by accident. Either way, that little guy who has a face prettier than any gisaeng is so going to pay for this.
No one mess with the crown prince, no one.
But for now, Jeon Jungkook - 1, Park Jimin – 1.
