On the topic of Tenris and Fa being from different clans

In Spirit Walker, chapter 18, we have this scene:

“ ‘Name your father’s mother,’ said the Leader. 

Torak did. 

The Leader’s lipless mouth tightened. 

Among the Seals, someone caught their breath. 

‘I knew the woman,’ wheezed the Leader. ‘She mated with a Forest man. I never knew that she’d had a son.’ 

‘But how do we know that she did?’ said the Mage without turning his head. ‘How do we know that the boy is who he says he is?’ “

When did Tenris join the Seal clan? How did he get there? How did the Seals not know Torak’s grandmother was Tenris’ mother?? Or do Tenris and Hati only share their father and did their father have two sons with two different Seal women? Did Tenris lie about his parents? How did none of the Seals know Torak and Tenris were related? Why didn’t Tenris say they were? I mean it wouldn’t have made a difference on wether Torak would’ve been sent to the Rock. Also Tenris didn’t know Torak was a spirit walker yet, so he probably just wanted to get rid of him. I guess that explains it. I’m thinking, had Torak been able to name his father, maybe they would have known Tenris was related. How would the story have progressed then?

I wonder, how come Torak’s father was Wolf clan but his brother Tenris was a Seal? Did his parents split up? Did they first live with the Wolf clan and then the Seals? How do those things work in coad universe? I am confusion
