Backpacker Magazine - April 2014 Issue: 2014's Best Gear
Always looking at ideas for gear and ways to improve my setup. This issue had not only great new product reviews, but some cool DIY kits for tent repair, first aid and survival. The first aid and survival kits are pretty common sense based on my military experience, but the tent repair kits were new material. I'm not used to having a tent much less use it so much I'll need to fix it!!
They recommended the following items: light multi-tool (always good to have!), tent pole repair sleeve, Tenacious Tape (a duct-tape like patch tape), replacement buckles (specific to your pack), fishing line with a sewing needle (for tear that tape won't work for), Seam Grip (adhesive for repairing rips, tears and punctures, plus it looks like it work like "Shoe Goo" on boots) and duct tape.
I found a few pre-packaged repair kits on Amazon that had most of these items - kits by Coleman and Coghlan's both have the rigid sleeves you would use to fix broken tent poles, mesh screen patches, nylon thread with a needle, generic seam grip and tape. I'd have to give the preliminary advantage to the Coghlan's kit for price and the quality of products I've used in the past. I'll be adding this item soon!
