i feel like you allow paul to be a complex person in your fics whie not allowing john to be a complex person. but hey maybe thats just me. maybe i dont know anything about how the beatles were. but i find that the way he is in your first beatle fic is perfect.
I mean you're allowed to think that but the story is mostly from Paul's POV and that means we get Paul's interiority and Paul's perspective and we don't get John's. Also the situation in TEOTU is very very different. In beatlemania era John is not coping well with fame as we know from the help era. He has more reasons to be insecure, more reasons to doubt his attachment to Paul, which wasn't being tested in EOTU. And all of John's horrific actions against other people pretty much come down to either his abandonment issues or his selfishness (also tied to the abandonment thing. Who else is going to look after him?). Paul has turned to getting his support from George Martin instead of John and that's a BIG issue for John. Like, that's so big it's a breakup era issue. And at the end of the day when John is insecure he lashes out.
Plus them being lovey dovey perfect boyfriends just isn't interesting. What is interestinb is examining how they're messed up and toxic and how that can be fixed.
