OUTCASTS BY CHOICE - a preview
A documentary about Belfast punk legends THE OUTCASTS - by Kate and Paul McCarroll. LOUDfastLOUD.
I went to see the film 'Good Vibrations' last month at the cinema and loved it! It's a true story about a man named Terri Hooley who owned a record shop during the height of the troubles in Belfast. Terri went on to discover punk band 'The Undertones' and recorded 'Teenage Kicks', which ended up becoming a huge hit!
During a time of fear and division, Terri Hooley managed to keep his spirits up and the people around him through music. The film is witty, and the soundtrack is great throughout! If you're a music lover then don't miss it.
My parents grew up in Belfast during the troubles and I think that's why the film resonated with me so much. My Mum and Dad used to visit the clubs that Terri Hooley DJ'd in at that time.
That all leads me on to what happened today...
My Dad is over visiting me in Dublin and we were walking past 'Tower Records' in Dublin and who did we end up bumping into but Terri Hooley, the legend himself!! We had a good chat about the film and how accurate it was. He was a lovely, friendly man and it was an honor to meet him after seeing the film and hearing his life story.
