I (24M) have been in a very committed mutually-exclusive situationship with my ship wife (22M) for some months now. Let’s call him Bobby. Bobby and I were just checking around the orlop when his superior found us, and let’s just say, Bobby was worried that he was going to assume that we were committing egregious acts of sodomy. We were but besides the point. Bobby works as a steward directly under this Lieutenant so worried this was gonna cost him his job but I assured him this guy was too Jesus-loving to say anything. But then this BITCH goes behind MY BACK, saying how I pressed HIM into service. Naturally, I had to show him who was in charge here so it just so happens somebody shat on his bed. Bobby and I went our separate ways but out of the kindness of my heart and not for any information whatsoever I decided we should make up so I got him a ring. AITA for caring about a man?

The doctor leaves and James busies himself with doing nothing. Taking note in the logbook of what has happened. Writing down the list of the dead, cross-referencing, figuring out who they were. It's just war, he reminds himself, don't get too personal about it, but it's personal. It feels personal.

He doesn't know if it's normal to feel as though he's lost his own sons and brothers, his own family, but he hates the feeling nonetheless. He hates that he cares so damn much because he knows he will never be good enough for them. He was never one for family and grew up an only child, without a mother, but being in the navy and this tight crew business has shifted perspectives. It scares him to have people he's close to. He'll have to be careful with Goodsir tonight. Nothing personal. Friendly, but nothing personal.

He goes on deck again, busies himself with giving his orders and checking on the crew. He's too afraid to go to sleep, so he won't, he'll stay awake as long as he can, even if he's tired, even if his mind is muddied, even if he feels so terrible, so so so terrible.

Much as he knows he should check on the injured, he avoids the sickbay.

Eventually the time comes. He has the steward get everything set for him in the wardroom, and then he waits for the doctor @erebusanatomist48.
