A Highland Werewolf Wedding

WATCH OUT, ODDLY SHINY GUY! THE GIANT SPIRIT SKY WOLF IS RIGHT BEHIND YOU! There's no hiding in that miniature house behind you!

Admittedly, the spirit wolf doesn't look particularly aggressive, but that's how they get you!

I love how the praise on the front cover is for a different book. That doesn't particularly bode well for this book.

On The Run... After werewolves Elaine Hawthorn and Cearnach MacNeill almost have a head-on collision on a foggy Highland road, they're pretty well stuck with each other. It'll be hours before anyone can get there to pull his car out of the ditch and they both have better places to be. And Nowhere to Hide From Each Other... The sexy little American brings out all of Cearnach's big bag protective instincts. If she thought she was in trouble before, Elaine has no idea what kind of complications a hot Scot can cause...

Isn't it always the way? You never ever meet another werewolf and then you just happen to crash into each other on the foggy Highland road! You'd think people would be used to driving in these conditions, what with the weather in Romance Scotland being set to Constant Rain and Somehow Also Fog.

It's just. Just. "Sexy little American". "Big bag protective instincts." Is that supposed to be big bad? I have a beautiful image of him digging through his duffle bag and pulling out stuff - "Pepper spray. Rape whistle. Urge to condescendingly assume that 'little' equals 'in need of protection'..."

The kinds of of complications a hot Scot can cause are, of course, overheating, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, etc. We're just not good in hot weather, because see above re: Romance Scotland Weather!

Incidentally, and I'm already fed up of having to mention this, Scotland and Ireland are not interchangeable and Cearnach is very much an Irish mythology character, Conall Cearnach. There are so many actual Scottish names that just a tiny bit of research would show up. So. Many.

I've noticed that this is the second time the MacNeills have come up. I'm going to start keeping a tally!

The Accidental Highland Hero

There's a storm coming on, and there's no taking shelter in that miniature castle, but he's so entranced by that thing she's wearing under her tartan. A... a top? That covers your chest and conceals the female nipple that is so much more offensive than his own extremely masculine and somehow rugged nipples and so there must be... what? Some shirts in Scotland?

Lady Eilis Dunbarton's life undergoes a drastic change with the death of her cousin, Agnes. Now she's faced with the disagreeable prospect of marrying the man who was to be her cousin's husband. Not by a change of contract, though. Instead, by deceit-pretending to be her cousin. But if her husband-to-be discovers she's not really Agnes, her life is forfeit. So what choice does Eilis have but to flee? When Laird James MacNeill's clan rescues a half-drowned lass from the sea, there is speculation she is of the enemy clan, especially since she doesn't remember her own name. James is immediately enticed with the lady, but his focus must remain on finding the proper bride. For if he does not wed soon, he must give up his holdings to one of his younger brothers. Focus slips away with each day Eilis is close, and James finds himself contemplating the thought of taking her to wife without knowing her true identity. But how dangerous would the end result be? And what will happen if Eilis's husband-to-be comes looking for her only to find her in the arms of another man?

What, because changing the contract would have been just too hard? Because the groom-to-be had fallen hard for Agnes via letter and wouldn't countenance swapping them out? Because he'd taken against women whose name begin with E? I suppose it could be that Agnes is the heir to castle or whatever and Eilis isn't, but that seems entirely too normal to be likely!

Meanwhile, what is this we see? A man on the hunt for a bride because brothers, and he trips over an unknown amnesiac who, let's face it, absolutely is from the wrong clan. Conflict, yo.

I really really really want it to turn out that James MacNeill here is the guy that Agnes was supposed to marry and Eilis didn't want to marry and that it's the Insurmountable Difference that will split them apart before something (often someone attempting to attack and/or kidnap the heroine and the hero saving her) brings them back together and that all's well that ends well. Ooh, or the betrothed is one of the Brother Reasons James is looking for a wife to avoid having to give them his stuff, which incidentally is not how it works and is in fact never how it has ever worked.

In a pinch I'll accept an Englishman who totally tries to kill James and fails completely because one of the combatants is a Scottish natural hero and the other is Perfidiously English.

Or a werewolf. There's been a paucity (pawcity, hah!) of werewolves so far.
