Chicago-native and Northwestern University alum Michelle An is one of the most influential female figures to ever make a mark in the music industry. This month, we celebrate Asian History Month and honor Michelle An as one of our front-runners in the industry.
Interscope Geffen A&M has recently promoted Michelle An in March of 2020 to the role of the Executive Vice President and Head of Visual Creative M.
“Michelle represents the spirit and culture of this company in a unique and important way, working closely with our artists on their visuals very early in their development, bringing their visions to life and helping them establish long lasting careers,” Berman, the company’s Vice Chairman, said in an article with Variety.
Before this promotion, An served as Senior Vice President and Head of Creative Content at Interscope Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. She would oversee the creation of all artist music videos, live shows, documentaries, original content and emerging platforms. In her new role, she will continue to lead a team that is responsible and works with IGA artists on the visual elements of their work, including photography, packaging, video, advertising, as well as their live shows and film and television projects.
Michelle began her career in 2006 in advertising with the company as a part of its brand partnerships department and then shortly moved to the creative department and became head of the department in 2012. Some brands that she has worked with are Beats By Dre, Chrysler and Anheuser-Busch, incorporating those and other major brands to collide with an artist's creative vision. In addition to her successful career path with Interscope, she is a GRAMMY-nominated producer for her work with TV on the Radio on their long-form album and film titled “Nine Types of Light,” and then produced Whack World by Tierra Whack. An has also commissioned OneRepublic's "Kids" VR music video experience.
In 2017, Michelle was named one of Billboard's Top Women in Music as well as 2019. Looking forward to seeing what comes next in Michelle An's career as she continues to lead the way for females in music.
