I have been reading through 1st John and today spent time studying chapter 4. I am able to learn so much from God’s word by studying it everyday. I would encourage you, if you haven’t already, to begin spending time alone with God and read through His word everyday. Pray and ask God to give you wisdom as you read, ask Him to speak to you and transform you to be more like Him, take notes and read over them for better understanding. God provided us with His word for a reason and it is important for us to take advantage of that gift and use it. In verses 1-6 of 1 John chapter 4, we are told to test every spirit because there are many false prophets in the world trying to make us believe one way or another. In fact, in verse 3 we are told that the spirit of the antichrist is already in the world. So how do we know who to listen to and what to believe? “Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.” Beginning in verse 4 we are given some words of encouragement, reminding us that as followers of Christ we are of God and have overcome these false prophets. “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” Make a plan to spend time in God’s word and get to know Him better so that you will be able to discern what is true and what is not. You can stand confident in Christ knowing He is in you has already overcome it all. Thank you God for giving us wisdom and guidance through your word.
