I resent the idea that a text needs to be complex to be worthy study material at the secondary level.
Will some of the material be complex? Yes.
Can/should all of the material be complex? Absolutely not. The world is complex sometimes, it's helpful to have something uncomplicated to read and discuss so that you can develop a lens through which to see the more complicated thing.
