i guess an interesting thing (to me) to explore in my fic is how extreme circumstances make us act in ways different to how we normally would. The romantic who is also airheaded ends up super focused yet un-sympathetic to his friends, the self-described conflict-phobic guy who won't work for longer than needed ends up arguing and staying overnight, the caring guy who's sometimes a mom friend and has some really specific wants ends up neglecting all those. and more

realized smth... johannes sang pelle miljoona's song vapaus on suuri vankila on the recent ve episode. in the second verse, his lyrics mention "loputon moottoritie on kuuma", which are not in the original song. tho pelle also has a song called moottoritie on kuuma (which jere covered)... but no "loputon" in that song either

y'know what song mentions "loputon moottoritie"? ylivoimainen

and johannes performs the cover in an outfit consisting of a white top and a dark-ish denim jacket. dunno if it's the exact same jacket he wore in the ylivoimainen single art (and parts of the mv), but it's very similar. plus, his pose and angle on the single cover of his vapaus on suuri vankila version is pretty similar to what he did on the ylivoimainen art

just an observation. i wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional

first thoughts on 'valoa varten' album by kuumaa!!!! finally i'm doing one of these for hotband yayyy

Vaikeessa vaiheessa - ngl i wasn't too convinced by the preview but this start is really good!! love those hi-hats. classic hotband. good start. love the drums 'running' in the bridge! i wonder if this will be an opener. and that note change in the last chorus niice

Tuun viel himaan - my beloved!!! love those added synth notes. love that rhythm!! i've been moving happily to this. yayy yippee yeheyyyy!! and that build-up to the instrumental break!! love the backing vocals in the last chorus too. and the drums in general omg! tho the belt at the end got reduced to a soft backing vocal... (at least we know how johannes sings this live hehe)

Ihan kohta ohi (ft. emma & matilda) - first single on the tracklist, again i love how e&m's backing vocals slowly enter in the first chorus. also very dancey

Jälkeen sun - very interesting start! slightly more electronic. very very interesting prechorus melody! well same for the chorus. techno?? is this the spi of the album?? it also reminds me of smth but idk, early 2010s??. this had me curious due to being the longest on the album, nearly 4 mins. ooohhh that techno bridge!!! this will go hard live i bet. and i wonder if that 'belt' at the end will sound different live too

Hyvänpäiväntutut - second single here, bit more mellow than the first four. tbh this also took time to grow on me. love that bridge as always

Keinut (ft. OLGA) - a ballad? an olga feat that's a ballad?? well olga did say it would be different from what we've heard from her so far. love how it builds up. love the piano progression. olga's voice too!! so gentle somehow. yess harmonization!!! i wonder how this will end up live. at least olga wouldn't need to move around too much. again i love how it builds and builds. loved that

Aloittelijat - this also intrigues me since this is jonttu's fave from the album. love that singing speed, interesting chorus melody again. also reminds me of 2010s again hehe. and those strings in the bridge! also i see edicti in the credits for backing vocals? nice! also i think i need the lyrics for this, i'll read them later

Valoa varten - next single, my fave of the singles for this album hehe. i think i've said all i need to say about this song before. (and now i'm curious if the lyrics connect to any other songs here, especially the previous one)

Meille ei kävisi niin - love that instrumental, especially the percussion! i'm also curious about the lyrics. also really like how it's mostly on johannes' lower range compared to the other songs (imo) then we get those high points. definitely gets better as it goes on. modulation!!! (yes i'm one of those people who'll get excited at modulation lol.) and now it gets really high haha, love that we're showing off johannes' range.

Sä voit soittaa mulle - transition!!! also i love this key. wait i heard from others that this is for elsa or smth? like 'pieni sisko' or smth?? love those percussions again. oh wow that chorus!! yes johannes sing your heart out!!! but why is it so short?? :(( WHY IS THIS SO SHORT MAN

Pieni ystävä - last single! lowkey love that this follows sä voit soittaa mulle. and i'll always appreciate that different time signature. and the strings

Älä muutu - ohmaygad?!?! another techno?? and i like this more than jälkeen sun already! sjfgjfsdjfhsdj... and finally a notable good bassline damnit!! cunty. also reminds me a bit of gold digger hehe. also i wonder how this will be live. that little high bass moment omg!! yeah this is another fave! (but what if this or jälkeen sun is one of aarni's least faves again...)

Jos pääsen maaliin - admittedly i listened to a few seconds of the intro the moment the album released, but i saved it for now. really like that piano. i'll need the lyrics for this too. love the key too. i guess this is the luotan tulevaan of the album? and omg the strings!!! i'll admit, no matter how happy or sad the lyrics may be, this somehow sounds positive. Almost healing. And we're slowing down a bit.

Round of applause!! I'd say my faves (aside from the title track for the singles) are tuun viel himaan, keinut, sä voit soittaa mulle, älä muutu, vaikeessa vaiheessa, and jos pääsen maaliin. which is a lot!! i'm trying to remember how my first reactions to red album were compared to this, but i don't think i liked as much songs from the get-go back then? and here i'm sure the others will grow on me too. also again i'm so happy tuun viel himaan finally came home (got a studio version)!
