no actually i have to make another post on that lmao. if people internationally really think that east germany was a great state bc gay people had some more legal rights in the gdr than in the west or bc the gdr was not connected to big bad capitalist america PLEASE read up on german history and politics. it's what we all do when we talk about the US and it's the least you can do when you talk about a country you obviously know nothing about. to make the gdr seem like some grand state where things were going fine bc socialism is historical revisionism. my dad's family fled the gdr with nothing but the clothes on their backs bc his grandfather was about to be wrongfully imprisoned so yeah no it wasn't fucking great.
the term "guilt" (as in "culture of guilt") in connection with the holocaust is used by right-wingers who want to do away with the current culture of remembrance and responsibility because they think they're not responsible for the holocaust bc they weren't alive at the time. east german society is NOT tolerant towards migrants, people of color, refugees, jewish people or muslims. the afd (our right-wing neo nazi party) is also very popular in east german states (Thüringen and Sachsen, for example). Don't believe everything you read on fucking twitter and don't believe "east good west bad" bc the US was involved the latter and not involved in the former
