Wye not get some rare mileage? by Greg Brown Via Flickr: On a cold morning in December 2003, Union Pacific had a freight train derail north of Klamath Falls, Oregon. The northbound Coast Starlight would terminate at Klamath and turn to become the southbound train. Passengers were bused to Eugene. Since it was going to take some time to marshal a fleet of intercity buses and get them to Klamath Falls, Amtrak and UP made the decision to wye the Starlight at Texum prior to arrival at the station in Klamath Falls. Passengers on the train got to cover one train length of the Modoc Line. December 14, 2003
