TF!Melinks not wanting to accept payment for sewing things for people because she simply enjoys sewing is really sweet and it's kind of relieving to see that she does genuinely like to sew when her family made her do a bunch of free labor to support them but it also makes me sad and worried for her. Which is the usual state of TF!Melinks viewer. I think her reluctance to accept payment is driven by a genuine love for the craft that brings her comfort because she hasn't had any projects to work on lately (because her family used to tell her what to make so they could sell it) but also by accepting payment for her work that opens up a lot of uncomfortable feelings toward her family who never did compensate her. It would mean looking directly at the truth that her family used her for financial gain and that it was wrong of them. It's apparent to everyone around Melinks that that is the case but I don't think it's something that Melinks herself has accepted yet. So she's trying to stick to the familiar of getting assigned a task and pouring herself into it for no monetary gain. All this change is uncomfortable and the familiarity would be a relief.
A collection of TF!Melinks's paintings:
She's very emotionally well right now as you can see.
I think there's something to be said about how TF!Melinks has been primed to put up with any abusive behavior because she's so desperate for any attention and company. She struggles to say no, she believes that everyone is just putting up with her and her expectations for kindness are in hell. You could do anything to her and as long as you follow it up with a smile she'll probably still think you're her friend because that is the exact situation she was raised in. It makes a lot of sense why anyone with eyes would be concerned with how she's become attached to the academy's resident bully and manipulator. AJ has just found a person who will be blindly devoted and do whatever she wants and all she has to do is say a nice thing every now and then. And she can even be sarcastic about it too because Melinks wouldn't even know the difference.
At first AJ was taking advantage of that but now I think she's come to the startling realization that this is too easy. It's not fun for her if the person doesn't fight back. AJ likes the thrill of arguments and conflicts and she makes an effort to push everyone away and I think she was trying to do it with Melinks too but it won't work because Melinks is already used to this kind of behavior. There's nothing AJ could really do to get rid of Melinks. So now it's just kind of sad for AJ and she doesn't claim to be a good person but even she has lines she won't cross. So now AJ unexpectedly has a friend when she clearly stated she didn't want any and I think both her and Melinks are trying to figure out what that looks like. It could go horribly wrong or it could be the best thing either of them have had. It's hard to say because neither of them have had a lot of practice with friendship. I'm absolutely fascinated by these two very fucked up people interacting.
Melinks was on Legundo's and Megii's streams having an out of character chat a few days ago (6/15) and here are some interesting tidbits from it:
Megii asked if TF!Melinks was supposed to be an allegory for autism based on the letters from her family:
CC!Melinks: "She's totally autistic. I've been on waiting lists and sort of socially approached with the idea that I am probably autistic. That's just how I deal with things. She's kind of like "Let's dial up my experience with other people in that aspect to 100." I think any character you make is going to come from some facet of your life experience whether your experience is the opposite to what you're portraying. But she's just a sweetheart and people don't understand her is the way that I'm doing it."
Other tidbits about TF!Melinks:
⦁ TF!Melinks was designed to be quiet and shy to reflect how she feels out of character being around so many new people she doesn't know.
⦁ Upon seeing how shy TF!Zam was she realized that she had to make TF!Melinks a little bit braver otherwise they'd be too similar and never interact
⦁ Melinks was a last minute fill in for the server which is why she wasn't a planned out character with a proper skin on the first day (This is also her first roleplay server)
⦁ Because she was the last person to join the server she struggled to find a magic that hadn't been taken yet so she decided to base her magic around something more mundane and settled on being a seamstress. From there she decided she wanted blue hair that looked like ribbons and that her clothes would look like they were made from scraps of fabric
⦁ TF!Melinks loves* TF!AJ because she was the first person to tell Melinks that they like her and that meant so much that she now views everything TF!AJ does through rose-colored glasses. AJ likes Melinks as well but there are a lot of ways that she could exploit her and Melinks would just be happy to be there *It seemed like CC!Melinks was going to specify that it wasn't inherently romantic love before being sidetracked. She did put a lot of emphasize on the word love though. TF!Melinks feels very strongly towards AJ
I've been catching with TF!Melinks's POV and The Comfort Of A Laugh Track by Roar is such a her song....ouughh weird girls who are used to being dehumanized and treated as lesser have such a chokehold on me
