Nate Archibald was perfectly capable of making poor decisions. Exhibit A: allowing himself to be in such a situation where there was every chance he may end up locked in a pantry with his ex-girlfriend who was currently dating his best friend, or his…his Serena. Either way, ‘seven minutes in heaven’ felt like false advertising. However tonight luck seemed to be in his favour. He was allowed, if only for seven short minutes, a break. Jenny Humphrey was someone who Nate had only seen in passing, could almost put a name to and certainly had not dated, cheated on, or been madly in love with. So that, if anything, was a start.
When the bottle stopped, Nate offered one of his award-winning smiles and helped the blonde (but not that blonde) up to her feet before promptly heading to the pantry before the obligatory whispers could start. Drunk or not, people liked to talk. Nate wasn’t exactly sure what he was supposed to do. Well, he knew what you were supposed to do but in between breaking up and making up and being left standing like a fool in what seemed like a continuous loop… Nate didn’t know what he was supposed to do.
So he just stood there, pretty and a little too sober and was just about to let that infamous “so” leave his lips when… He remembered a tidbit of information about who the girl in front of him was. He remember her brother.
“Hey! You’re Dan’s sister, right? Dan Humphrey?” it came out just a little too-enthused and Nate still wasn’t sure why he was so determined to make nice with some guy from Brooklyn who seemed to hate him on principle, but he was. He then quickly added, “Sorry, I probably should have started off with a hey, I’m Nate. I don’t think we’ve met properly yet and uh, well I guess now is as good as any time. Surrounded by cereal and everything.”
