He stops, shifting his deeper-than-crimson hues towards the ground.
“...It disappeared.”
"If you wander too far, you'll be at risk for getting lost."
"No, put it down. I have no need for something so useless as..."
The glint of the intricately crafted necklace once again caught his attention.
"...that."

There was no atmosphere more relaxing than the late night calm of a coffee shop. The heavenly aroma of vanilla and chocolate was therapeutic, and after a exhausting day spent in the operating room, there was no better therapy for the tired doctor.
She ordered up her usual -- a vanilla creme frappuccino, and waited patiently for her drink to be handed over to her by one of the baristas.
“Thank you so much.” The woman offered her regards kindly when the young looking girl handed over her drink. Her fingers wrapped tautly around the plastic cup, and she lifted it up to her lips to taste the foamy cream on top, but was disgusted when she realized something -- this was not her order, and most importantly, there was no cream on top either. Gross. But when she turned back to correct the barista, there was nobody willing to help her -- all busy with other duties, the doctor sighed and turned to cast her stare out over the shop. She’d take it upon herself to find out who’s order this was. Chances were that if she got their order, then they got her order.
Her eyes never fooled her -- when she saw a man holding a vanilla creme frapuccino in his hand, looking puzzled, she knew it had to be him. “Excuse me!” She waved her hand around and rushed over to his table, using that same hand to gesture to the drink in his hand. “I believe that’s mine -- and, I think I’ve gotten yours too, actually.”

“Omo -- Rosco, please, you are so much stronger than you look!” The doctor was having a difficult time with a rambunctious golden retriever puppy, who wasn’t satisfied with a slow paced walk through the bustling city streets. The juvenile pup was galloping like some kind of race horse, and poor Nana was grasping onto the short leash with all of the strength she could muster.
And then, the inevitable happened, and the leash slipped through her fingers, and she quickly lost sight of the pup as he went racing off through the busy sidewalks. “Rosco, no! Mommy won’t be able to find you if you go running off like that! --” However desperate she sound calling after the pup, he was having a delightful time running off from the doctor.
The woman was frantic to find her pup before he got into some trouble, so she blindly grabbed for someone’s arm in passing and gave it a firm squeeze. Her eyes slid up to land on a man’s face, and she shook his arm gently to express her high levels of worry.
“Ah, will you please help me?! You see, my pup.. He ran off, and I’m afraid he may run into traffic... --”

It was routine for Nana to pay a visit to the girl who was the closest thing to family that the doctor knew anymore. The safety and well-being of the young drifter was on Nana’s mind more often that not, and she knew that her tendencies to worry and hover over the younger girl were a little much, considering that Daeun was an adult but that did not change her mother-like relationship with the other.
When days would pass without word from Daeun, the doctor would worry and fear for the younger girl. She would try to remind herself that Daeun was young, and that she was probably just living her life and enjoying it but those instincts that were hardwired in her brain were difficult to ignore. So the doctor took time out of her busy schedule that Friday morning and made the short drive over to the drifter’s home. She couldn’t ignore that little voice in the background of her mind that instilled the fear of losing the only family that Nana had anymore.
It was a little after eleven when Nana arrived at Daeun’s door, palm closed and knuckles tapping against the door in a slow pattern. She regretted not sending a text message before showing up without giving any prior notice, and worried that the younger may not be home. She knew that the drifter had a busy life, and while Nana frowned upon a lot of the choices that Daeun made, she respected them enough to keep her mouth shut about most of them.
