Things I love about Voltron:
-The animation. There are some scenes where I literally have to pause and like, yell at the screen. They capture the characters’ personalities so well with their movements. Coran in particular is a tour de force. That scene with him sneaking through the ducts of the castle...good god. He’s constantly flailing and flying around in this series, and you can tell the animators had to act out some (if not most) of the actions themselves for reference.
-The shot composition and cinematography. Just about every shot in this series is perfectly balanced, as far as I’m concerned. As an art student I am always having to rethink my page compositions, and seeing everything framed so well is a big inspiration for me. It’s a level of polish I think a lot of people overlook. And as for camera and character movement...have you guys SEEN The Hunted? So many objects and characters are floating through the frame at odd angles, and yet everything lines up perfectly. The screen splits are always well-balanced. The swirling camera motions and close ups really enhance that dizzy, claustrophobic feeling. Wow.
-The background art. I either want to become a comic artist or a background artist, and I could gush about Voltron’s background art for HOURS. Their use of color...their creative environment designs...gAH
-The voice acting. ARE YOU . K I D DI NG ME?!??! God, these actors are so unBELIEVABLY skilled. They elevate the series to impossible heights. Before I was even on board with Voltron’s story, I was totally grabbed by these voice actors. I remember commenting to my friends as I watched, like, “Holy shit, who are these actors?!”
-Moments when the characters comfort each other or get playful with each other. Some of my favorite character moments in the series include: Lance and Pidge saving up for a video game; Keith teasing Lance over the radio when he’s cuffed to a tree; Allura helping Lance with his new sword; and...every time Keith and Shiro comfort each other honestly!
