It was a cool day, the breeze crisp on her skin as Spring was approaching on the horizon. The skies were clear with a few clouds and the sun was out, allowing for the gentle beams to warm the breeze’s chill away. Overall, it was the perfect weather to travel in. Kagome stared ahead at the worn, dirt path, her sandals kicking up dust in her wake. A content smile lifted her features as she reached out a hand to the hanyou walking at her side, finding his hand and lacing her fingers through his. “It’s been a while since we’ve done this, just the two of us.”

It had been so long since she had been on a hunt for a demon or a jewel shard, and even longer since they had gone on one with only the two of them. They received an urgent plead to save a village up in the mountains from some sort of demon, Kagome didn’t really remember the details. Miroku was supposed to go with Inuyasha but the twins had a cold so he didn’t want to leave them alone with Sango. So, it was her brilliant idea for her to accompany her husband on the job. It had taken much convincing and another spar match until he reluctantly agreed they would set out the next morning.

Her bow was a missed familiar weight on her back as it lightly tapped against her skin with each stride. It had taken a few weeks but her aim was back to what it had been if not better. Inuyasha was quiet, quieter than normal but she didn’t think much of it, so she simply filled the silence herself. “I know you wanted Miroku to come instead of me. It’s my first time getting back into the swing of things, but I’m ready. My spiritual powers are stronger than they’ve ever been and Sango agrees that I’m ready. Besides, I beat you in sparring last time and don’t say it was because I distracted you by kissing you. I knew I was going to win that match anyways,” she smiled up at him, trying to get him to crack one of his own but his lips remained pursed. A sigh came from her pouted lips.

“Inuyasha, are you going to tell me what’s wrong or are you going to make me keep guessing?”

The overwhelming quiet is what she noticed first as she struggled to pry her eyes open, the lack of mechanical background noise and excitable discussion between researchers, scientists and corporate wage slaves replaced by soft bird song and the soft rustling of leaves.

The drastic shift in scent struck her next - the heavy odor of mildew and mold that blended with the stench of blood and viscera, old and new, amalgamated with the sterile, sharp slap of bleach, caustic chemicals and oil...all gone; a gentle breeze carrying on it the sweet smell of flowers, river water, damp earth and tree bark.

The sunlight filtering through the branches overhead was piercing...confusing - when was the last time she’d seen the sun? ...why was she able to see the sun?

Unsteadily, she pushed herself off the ground, palm sinking slightly into the soft loam and grass as she sat up, taking in this new, unfamiliar scenery; not a trace of the asylum to be seen other than herself and the shredded, ruined jumpsuit that hung flaccidly from her person; the scum and dried blood that had burrowed beneath her fingernails and clung to exposed patches of skin and matted her unruly hair along with the horrible y incision scar that tore through the majority of her torso, a grim reminder of her time in captivity...but where was she?

Certainly, she shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth...but the odds of this being a trick of sorts played by those behind her imprisonment and torture was too real; fear twisted its way into her stomach - if this was a trick, if they had managed to find a way into her mind, to manipulate her psyche...to make her see what wasn’t there...

She instantly scrambled back, bare skin striking rough bark and she doubled into her self purely out of terror, fingers digging into her scalp painfully - were they able to simulate sensation too?!

“Aufwachen! Aufwachen! Aufwachen! Komm schon! Ich muss aufwachen!”

The summer had been rather warm as of late. Not much of a breeze to keep people cool or many clouds in the sky to help curb the heat. But that didn’t stop people from going outside. They just went to pools or water parks or had cold treats with friends. Kids would run around and play in the park with out really caring much for the heat. Some even got slightly sunburned because they forgot to put on sunscreen.

As the day went on, however, some kids at one of the local parks spotted a young girl. She was unhealthily skinny practically sickly looking, short, and had pure white fluffy hair and a pair of cat-like red eyes. She had silver waning crescent moon symbols on her forehead, torso, back, tops and bottoms of her feet, and backs and palms of her hands.

The kids glared at her, watching as she passed. Not long later they gave chase, hurling random items at her while screaming and yelling at her to buzz off and to stay away from their park, even though they had long since left that park.

The poor girl kept running as fast as she could, trying to lose the bullies in the crowd. She weaved this way and that through the mass of people and eventually running into a wooded area and running blindly through the trees.

Soon she tripped over a root and hit the ground, cutting her cheek. Another wound to go along side the others that were on her legs and left arm, her right arm was completely bandaged so it was protected, caused by the projectiles.

She whimpered and shakily stood up to catch her breath, noticing that the bullies had long since left her alone. So she rested a bit, catching her breath, then began walking through the area to find her way home.

However, she had no idea where she was going and eventually just gave up trying to go home and decided to explore. She found an old, illegible sign alongside a beaten path and inspected it. It was wooden and falling apart, the writing fading away due to age. The child dared not touch it, not wanting to break it. So she followed the path with a small smile, wondering what secrets were held there.

Not far from the sign a small clearing with a large, cleanly cut stone slab was visible. The slab took up most of the clearing and was in the center of it. The slab had odd carvings on it and the child inhaled excitedly. The discovery intrigued her and she instantly began looking over the carvings.

They were very odd, foreign even. Weird runes or symbols followed the path of a circle, with each circle getting smaller and smaller until there was just a single symbol in the center of it all. The child began crawling on her hands and knees, running her tiny hand across the indentations of the slab, trying to memorize them. She made a mental note to come back another day with a note pad or something as well as some books to try and decipher these symbols. Maybe make out some kind of meaning.

Lost in thought the child inched closer and closer to the center of the slab. The moment she was on that single symbol in the center the slab light up, as if coming to life. A cyan light began filling the symbols akin to that of a liquid filling a jar. The light started from one part of the slab and spiraled to the middle, engulfing the frozen, awe struck and fearful child as she watched with wide eyes. She was unsure of what to do and before she knew it the light had engulfed her and she vanished without a trace.

Within a few moments the child reappeared about a foot above the stone slab and landed on her back with a squeak. She just laid there, in pain and groaning. After a moment she stood up slowly and looked around.

“... What was...” She muttered to herself. “Whatever.” She huffed, just brushing this whole event off for now. Everything looked relatively familiar for now so she decided to start walking again. But something caught her eye. The sign. It looked brand new and she could make out the writing. Though it was in those odd symbols so it was still foreign to her. The girl raised her guard a bit and walked on, forgetting about her wounds from earlier as she looked around for anything familiar.

"Me and Inuyasha?” Ayame paused to think. She’s be lying if she didn’t admit she often thought about flirting with the dog to try and get a raise out of Koga. Maybe even try to engage in a fake relationship so they could both make the people the liked jealous, thought she had to admit to herself she knew Kagome didn’t like Koga but maybe it could work?

“I think Inuyasha and I might both benefit from a fake relationship. Fake lovers, friends with benefits, whatever. He’s a little rough around the edges but I think we could make it work.”

Marriage was something Nicole had been excited about since she was a little girl, even having dreams about what she would look like as a bride. Now here she was, about to marry the man (well, hanyou) of her dreams.

"What's wrong, darling?" An older woman with dark drown hair asked as she was fixing Nicole's own hair. "Hmm? Oh, just thinking." She spoke softly, taking a small deep breath. Truth was, she was nervous as hell. Who could blame her though? It was her wedding day.

Her mother just smiled and shook her head. "It's alright. I know you are nervous, perhaps a bit scared. It's all normal." She patted her shoulder gently. After a moment, she finished up her hair and turned Nicole around. "You know that me and your father love Inu-Yasha and I know you love him too. He makes you happy, and that's all we care about." Nicole felt the tears come to her eyes, hugging her mother. "Now, go to him."
