If not, if you’re legitimately JUST CURIOUS, then the reason you’re having trouble finding your direct answer is bc this is an extremely problematic topic. Ppl get publicly thrashed for having any opinion on it that leans towards the more problematic answer. So, for my general opinion on #darkfic and #problematic content, check those tags. I don’t have a public opinion on this specific question and I’m not interested in creating a platform for ppl to harass each other over it in reblogs/comments; this blog is for entertainment and fandom support. I’m not going to introduce a topic that has been extremely controversial and could lead to bullying over headcanons.

Anon, if you believe those characters are in a ship, go for that interpretation! If you don’t, equally go for that interpretation! Are you on the fence about it? Stay on the fence! You’re allowed to perch on a fence! It’s obviously an intense relationship, not all intense relationships are romantic in nature, some are. Can we even apply “romantic” in human terms to vampires? Ricean vampires don’t have penetrative sex, is that a requirement for a “romantic” relationship? Some real life marriages between human beings don’t have penetrative sex and they still count as “romantic.” Not even the author can answer your question definitively, really.

In my opinion, a fictional work is a conversation between the author and the reader. You supply your own experiences and beliefs to your opinion (”headcanon”) of the story and the characters as you “go for the ride,” reading the story, so to speak. Even if you had an opinion that deliberately contradicts what the author intended, or all the other fans interpreted, it’s still YOUR PERSONAL HEADCANON and you’re allowed to have it. No one can take that away from you.

There are ppl who headcanon all kinds of things I disagree with, and you know what I do about it? Absolutely nothing. Some of my closest fandom friends have differing opinions and that’s absolutely fine. How boring would it be if we all agreed on everything, all shipped the same ships?

It’s perfectly fine to have conversations with friends, try to convince others about your headcanon, and let others try to convince you of their headcanons. Some ppl do that through fanworks, some by public postings, some prefer to do it privately, some do all of those things.

My headcanons these days are proprietary, communicated privately or not at all, bc the atmosphere of public discourse has degenerated to the point where suggesting that maybe your question needs closer scrutiny, or that there is more than one answer to your question, or that it can be answered in a different way that does not frame the ship in human terms, or any other response! is called out for being a failure to Take a Side. So I’m choosing not to answer.

If you’re asking in good faith, I would suggest to you that the question is too simplistic. Even in real life marriages, intimacy and love cannot always be so easily defined. No one’s opinion is fact, including the author’s. So headcanon what you prefer!
