I’ve had this headcanon for a while, but Whitehorse retires post-cult-nonsense and Staci becomes the new sheriff. While some said Hudson was the better choice, she herself says she prefers to be a deputy and Staci’s the man for the job. She and Rook are his staunchest supporters.
It took him a while to choose a therapist but he finally did after a while, and they gently challenge him with healthy coping mechanisms and simple “homework” like not counting the steps from his door to his car one morning or not triple-checking that he really did turn the stove off. He considered himself damaged goods for a while, but between therapy and the support of his friends - and coming home to Rook every night - he let go of that self-destructive way of thinking and began to put more effort into his recovery.
He’s doing well. Eventually, the days of him waking up trembling in the middle of the night with one eerie song in his head are gone. Maybe someday he and Rook even have children, as many as they think is right, and there’s nothing better for him than coming home to his happy family after a satisfying day in the station as Sheriff Staci Pratt.
