there is a universe in which taylor fritz has already won a slam. maybe even multiple, and has been in multiple slam finals. there is a universe in which taylor fritz lived up to the pressures put on him as a kid in juniors, won his first title on tour before age 21, has won more masters tournaments, and is the fiercest competition to the other top players on tour. there is a universe in which his accomplishments aren't continually undermined and he's proven himself to be one of the best, and everyone knows it.

and while i wish i lived in that universe it begs the question: is that taylor tennis? would taylor tennis be the same with these attributes, or is there something inherent to him about almosts... about being a little bit behind the rest...
