I really love the writing. I greatly enjoyed how Tea is telling the story to a bard and even though she's 17 she doesn't have a very immature voice. I just wish that the "present" parts of the book weren't in nothing but italics lol. Pages straight of nothing but italics gets hard on the eyes.
Some things seemed illogical. Tea immediately proves herself accidentally to be a very powerful bone witch (necromancer) and her mentor wants to train her as soon as possible so she doesn't cause any more damage, yet the mistress refuses to train Tea for a full year. And to nobody's surprise, she proceeds to accidentally resurrect an entire graveyard and then some. At the same time, the training the asha (witches) get is strange. Music lessons, dancing, flower arrangement? Are these powerful mages who in Tea's case can raise the dead or just an entertainer?
Unfortunately this seems like one of those books with just a very long buildup. More than halfway into the book I noticed there hadn't been any real plot, just Tea training as a bone witch and having hurdles to get over. It isn't until 70% or more when a plot is finally revealed.
That's all I got. Definitely needed to be tightened up, but I still enjoyed and I hope to real the sequel/s one day
