The Emerald Mage: The Violet and the Blade

(This is the book I've been working on, and intend on publishing! The series is The Emerald Mage, and the book is called The Violet and the Blade! It's a queer fantasy, with a target audience of older teenagers/new adults)

A princess and a knight are journeying to the kingdom of Sephina, known for its beaches and laws against mages, as the princess is arranged to be wed to its crown prince.

The journey is simple, though a long one, but unexpectedly perilous, as the princess and knight find their carriage attacked by bandits before they can even reach the shore.

All their companions are killed, but before they can be, too, they are rescued by a pair of pirates: the captain and first mate of The Emerald Mage, both wielding the magic forbidden in many of the nearest kingdoms.

The princess and knight find themselves with no option but to travel with them, meeting a sweet, mage writer on the way, and clashing with The Emerald Mage's greatest enemy, The Dragon.

Will they make it to the wedding in time, whole and unharmed, or will the princess's greatest, darkest secret be revealed before they can?

Fabian turned to Arthur. He looked him over, almost calculating, like he saw him as far more of a threat than the others, but Fabian still seemed far from afraid of this man. He took a step towards him.

“All right. Nette wants a word with you.”

Arthur raised an eyebrow. “What about?”

Did his casual near-compliance mean he was trying to work with their captors to secure his safety?

Sophie turned her head. She did not look at them, instead glancing at a spot just ahead and to the left, but Harley could see the corner of her lips creeping upwards.

She turned forward once more, but Harley could not help but smile back.

Rena nodded, slow, her eyes fixed on Sophie.

Then, in an instant, she leant in close to Harley’s ear: so fast that the motion was a blur. She hovered just high enough that she was now a few inches taller than him, whereas when she was stood on the ground, she was a few inches shorter.

The air that swirled and danced around her – the movement never slowing – now brushed against his skin, feather light.

CHARACTER:

Sophie Blackwillow, the princess of Maerion, is second in line to the throne.
