Despite what’s happened with the leading man of The Cosby Show in recent years, I didn’t want to dismiss this show as a staple in television. While it wasn’t the first to showcase black people, it was the first to really give audiences a new way of thinking about the black American family. For that reason, this show was it in the ‘80s. Almost always number one with TV watchers.

One of the most syndicated shows in history, I was very surprised to learn The Brady Bunch only ran for five seasons. While it didn’t last as long as one may’ve guessed off the top of their head, it’s forever synonymous with classic TV and fits in just right with this month’s theme. It also continues the tradition this month seems to have with crappy finales that give no real closure to the series.

Sons of Anarchy drastically varies from where we were last week at the Creek. That’s because July is over and done with and we’re moving on to a month all about the brodown. Shows that men absolutely freaked out about to the point that their loved ones started to worry a bit — from Charming to Albuquerque, from a man in the Counter Terrorist Unit to a group of guys and a gal spending way too much time playing fantasy football. First, though, the crime ridden drama of Jax Teller.

Originally Dawson’s Creek didn’t even make my list last year when this series came to mind, but I’m glad it did because come on — when it comes to teen shows, this one is possibly one of the most beloved. And while I thought this show was garbage growing up, I soon took my words back as I got way too into this two-part finale that had quite a bit going on. Yes, there were moments that reeked of cheese but that was more than expected.

No matter when you grow up, being a teenager is basically the same in every decade. It’s full of yearning for sexual attention, awkward crushes, often times first loves, experimenting with everything your parents warned you about and then some. That was the case for our parents, us, and will be for our grandkids. So what I love about shows that feature teens is that they always explore the exact same ideas, but set against a different backdrop — and the one on That ‘70s Show just happened to be the last few years of the ’70s in Wisconsin.

Sticking with the teen spirit and diving more into the geeksphere, we’re looking at Buffy the Vampire Slayer this week. I know there are people who absolutely love this show. Like to the point that it’s almost cultlike but — yeah, we’ll get to what I thought after spending less than an hour with this beloved sci-fi drama that made the jump from The WB to UPN all those years ago.

After a month of working we’re going to go back to a simpler time. Well, simpler in terms of not having to pay bills and rent, but emotionally — being a teen is still a burden. For July we’ll focus on shows that were geared towards teenagers and, in most cases, were all about them and their experiences. So in my mind there was no better place to start than The O.C. Remember the addiction of this show in the early ’00s?

We’re winding down this month in the workplace with a couple of shows I’ve never seen and know maybe five things about total. One is set back in what I think is the ’60s and stars a dapper man, and the other is this week’s pick — a show set in a newsroom that, like The Office, doesn’t really stretch for a clever title. The Newsroom is about the ins and outs of the people who run what I can only assume is a CNN-like news program. So let’s get to it because the finale, I wasn’t all that thrilled to watch.
