heaven says - marble hornets
I remember seeing some excerpt on twitter about Walter Benjamin going to hang with Robert de Montesquiou, the inspiration for Baron de Charlus in In Search of Lost Time, because obv he jumped at the opportunity to meet a Proust character irl, and his (Benjamin's) friends were like oh be careful, he's super gay, he might make a move on you. Which is wild because yeah, obviously the model for the gayest character in a novel where everyone is gay is gay. Were they stupid or did they think Benjamin was?? I think that kinda happened to Nabokov (not realizing Proust was gay for an absurdly long time) but he was lowkey autistic imo and also they didn't have internet in pre-revolutionary Russia; he was maybe out of the loop. Anyway does anyone know what I'm talking about re the Benjamin story. Maybe the original text was in German? I swear I didn't make this up.
