When you finally return back to the cleaners headquarters, take a long well needed hot shower and lay yourself in bed silently, warping yourself deep into your blankets, mindlessly isolating yourself from the others, deeply mind-delved into the recent traumatic events that had happened to you during the Raiders capture of you — you grit your teeth firmly together and clutch onto the hemming of your blanket closer to your shrinking body, shriveling deeper into the simmering warmth and rapturous shelter of the cozy material enclosing you from the outside world, briefly.
So lost in your own thoughts, you haven't even picked up on the consistent, gentle knocks reverberating against the metal of your bedroom door. Disassociating, your fingertips curl more tightly into the soften fabric beneath your tense clutch, sinking further into the draping sheet framing over you.
Nearly takes you seconds for your body to jolt to the sudden loud creak resounding from the edge of your bed, dipping to the added weight pushing down upon it.
"...I know you said you wanted space, but I just wanted to check in on ya, to just make sure you're alri—"
"En', can you just...hold me?"
A weighted silence washed over the two of you, golden blown irises gaze over at you with a careful, examining expression. He exhales a low breath, pushing his umbreaker to the side and warily lays down next to you, wrapping his arms around you. Pulling you in close into his warming, protective embrace. Sealed lips find purchase at the top of your head gently and mutters inaudibly into the soften tresses on your perfect crown.
"I'm so sorry"
"..."
"I'm so sorry that I wasn't there for you to protect you when you needed me the most"
"...You're here now En', that's all that matters" your arms firmly cling around his stretching body, fingers clinging deep into his hefty coat, inhaling his familiar, comforting scent. Feeling the gnawing anguish and burning regret sear into your body. His hands pushes you in deeper against his lengthy height, one hand pushing at the back of your head to dip your face into the nook of his tattooed throat as the other shoves at the midst of your lower back to pin into his sturdy figure.
"...Yeah well, you needed me most when I wasn't able to get to you through those shit times...I can only fuckin' imagine what they were doing to you...so let me just take this shit...please, pretty"
"...You're being selfishly ridiculous En'..." your fingers loosen their grip on his coat, traveling up along the stride of his inked neck to the apples of his cheeks, angling his face to meet yours. Your thumbs delicately fanning across the supple skin of his cheeks.
"I survived didn't I? I'm here, yeah? thanks to you and the others, I'm here alive and breathing..." your fingers gingerly brush over the supple skin of his flush lips, back over the curves of his cheeks. Honeyed eyes peering strictly down into yours, drowsed in nothing but sheer guilt and anger. You simply smile, rolling your eyes as you lean up to press your lips tenderly against his.
"So just, shut up and don't go bearing all that weight of guilt and rage on your shoulders En', none of this was your fault, I'm here...with you, speaking, breathing" you take one of his balled fists with your left hand and carefully place it against your chest, where your heart laid, drumming ever so rhythmically and steadily. Your right hand still cupping his clenched cheek, gradually relaxing under your tender touch.
"Otherwise I'll be on your ass for the rest of your days, you got that?" you chime with a friendly threat, and for a split of a second, you could see that familiar, daring cheeky smile curl along his cheeks. You keep your smile, adoring that stupid, witty goofy grin of his — the very one that you've direly missed. He leans into your palm, humming briefly as he slips his lips against your wrist to plant a subtle kiss to it, eyes still fixated on yours.
"Like I'm ever going to let you leave my sights after tonight woman"
You both share a soften cackle, wallowing in each others presence before gradually slipping into a deep, comforting, safe slumber in each other's arms.
And just as he made his pledge, he stuck to it. Through and through.
With every mission you were appointed too, he was there right next to you. Keeping his word.
Because he'll be damned, if the Raiders or, anyone for the matter, to have his girl be taken away from him ever again.
