Every universe before this one had pain and anguish. But there was a balance, there was a prevailing love throughout. Now? It was dim, barely a flicker.
The universe was danced into existence. The primordial elements exploded from a loving embrace.
Before there was void and chaos there was nothing. Two pieces of energy awoke and found each other. Those brief moments of loneliness were terrifying for them. But then they found each other and they made a promise to each other - they'd never be apart again.
They were called the Lovers jokingly by their eldest son Tanin'iver. Before creation it was just their family and their Attendants.
They were happy, there was so much love between them all. As they began to create they planted seeds. Small patches of stardust where beings could form. Beings who could make and manipulate like them. But these beings could not make primordial elements like they or their children could.
After this countless universes came and went. The Lovers loved to watch, to be side characters in someone's story.
They encouraged their children to explore as they did. To meet the inhabitants of their universes. To understand the millions of stories playing around them.
They only ever had one rule, do not speak of them. Do not invoke their name. If their child was hurt call to their siblings, not them.
They simply wanted to watch everything and pain was experience that their children needed. Afterall experiencing the loneliness they did helped them.
It was in this newest universe that Tanin'iver met her. A young goddess. She didn't have name but she called herself Darknesss. The Darkness to her younger brother's Light.
The Lovers watched as the god family moved on deeper into the Unmade. The Darkness and Light stayed behind.
For a time everything was okay. Tanin'iver got to know Darkness and mentored the Trio. His triplet siblings who were getting ready to use their powers for the first time.
It was them who made the immortal races. Their pride and joy. They loved the races as their children and treated them as such.
Tanin'iver didn't mind, he liked the little things. They were interesting. But Light and Darkness were not getting along.
Light saw the potential for one of the races - angels. They were already pretty disciplined, they would be amazing soldiers. But their Patron refused to get involved, He saw them as innocent, as things to be protected.
Light grew furious and with Darkness's help killed the trio. Light took the angels, and Darkness took the demons. She didn't want to change them so she took on the attributes and mannerisms of their old godess.
Tanin'iver was heartbroken and went to his parents to tell them to intervene. They refused, their children were not gone. They would come back when this universe ended. Tanin'iver just needed to be patient.
Tanin'iver was furious but he couldn't go against them. His parents had always been around, surely they knew what they were talking about.
It was then that the tension between Light and Darkness came to ahead. Tanin'iver watched helplessly as Light used his child army to take Darkness down and lock her away.
Again he went to his parents for them to intervene. Surely this time would be different? For it was about love, again the Lovers refused.
She would be released and Tanin'iver needed to be patient.
Tanin'iver was tired of being patient and so he recruited his two youngest siblings to help make a weapon. He couldn't kill his parents he knew, but he could incapacitate them.
So he used the weapon, locking their memories again and binding them to mortal bodies. He ordered the Feyyers to make sure they continuously reincarnated. He then told his siblings that their parents would need to stay separate, for if they found each other they would remember.
And if their parents remembered they would be severly punished and they didn't want that did they? His younger siblings shook their heads, their wide innocent eyes believing every word.
Tanin'iver was still not satisfied and so he went to Heaven. He found Lumiel and listened to the mark as it spoke to him. But Lumiel had love here, he would always have enough to keep the mark at bay.
So Tanin'iver turned his attention to Samael, the black sheep of the family. He slowly and systematically undid him. Recoding him to be more selfish, impulsive, and angrier.
It worked Samael eventually pushed Lumiel over the edge and Light's little humans fell. Light was furious and after the Rebellion Tanin'iver appeared to him.
He told him everything he did to lead up to this moment. He told him of his and Darkness's relationship. He told him who those triplet gods had been that Light and Darkness had killed.
He didn't tell him of the Lovers. He thought it best to keep that little secret. As Light bound him to Eden and cursed his name - Tanin'iver laughed, he laughed and laughed.
He had won. He had gotten his revenge.
His younger siblings lost track of their parents during the Victorian Era. Though they found them during the tale end of the Edwardian Era.
Or maybe that's what the Lovers want them to think.
