Interlude
asabragxvingthor continued from here.
Thor sucked in a breath at the sound of her voice, and he tried to hide the obviousness of his tears. He’d been thinking too much. And in trying to escape those thoughts, he ended up only making everything so much worse. “I don't…” he clenched his jaw and squeezed his eyes closed. “I tried to escape myself by burrowing further and I… I am a good king. But I am a wretched man.” He admitted, dropping his head. “I try to pretend that these things are trivial but dammit there’s no where for me to go anymore. Everywhere I turn I see my mistakes. My friends… my son… my mistress… my nephew… you… fuck, even Asdis. There is no where that I can glance without seeing my faults, or truths I’ve been trying to avoid… There’s no way anymore.”
This was something she had hoped for, waited on. For Thor to finally see what he had done, what he was doing, but Sif didn’t find as much enjoyment in his realization than she had expected to. No matter his faults, and her own mistakes, she loved him with every fiber of her being.
She offered him her hands, for when she was hurting, touch always helped her greatly. “No one knows better than I that the past cannot be changed. We can only acknowledge what we’ve done that we’re ashamed of. Accept it, learn from it, and step into the future with the hopes of not repeating those sins. Believe me when I tell you that beating yourself up will only make everything worse. It will eat you alive from the inside out.”
