Boof is up from his winter snoozing for a snack (at least for now). He's gotten so big since my sister first found him almost eight months ago!

Helped my sister move back up to college today and was in charge of holding the Snephew's temporary moving container. He was actually fairly active, and when we stopped for gas I managed to get this (sort of) on video!
It's not the best quality due to the container being more translucent than transparent, and having some scuffs and scratches; but I think that's his little heart beat that I saw through his shell!
He has also finally learned that Carrots Are Food after my sister plopped one down directly in front of him near his stick. She also set up a trail of carrot pieces to his little plate that she places his food on to hopefully lure him to it so he'll know where to find his food in the future.
It worked tonight! Boof has now figured out that The Plate is Where We Eat the Carrots! We'll see if it sticks as she introduces more variety to his diet.

Snephew Update!
Woke up yesterday morning to my sister barging into my room and asking if I wanted to see something amazing. Said yes. Got dragged into her room to look at a stick in Boof's tank.
"Do you see it?" she says.
I, still halfway asleep and not entirely sure what I'm supposed to be seeing, say "see what?"
See, my sister has been very worried about her dearest son boy Boof not eating the veggies she's been laying out for him. She had never seen him near the bowl she placed them in and they never had any rasp marks on them. However, he was still growing, pooping, and generally showing off healthy snail behaviors, so we knew he had to be eating something. This morning, she was able to catch him eating. And what was Boof eating, one may ask?
The stick.
Not the veggies, not the bloodworms that my sister placed out in case he was a carnivorous snail or just needed some protein in his diet (we have yet to positively ID him since he's not fully grown and also still fairly small), the stick.
Apparently my sister watched him rasp little holes into the bark of the stick for an entire hour that morning, and because his body is fairly clear she could see that he was actually eating it.
So now we know what my snephew is eating. We're going to try different veggies than what she's been offering him to see if he'll take to those for some variety in his diet, but it's good to know that there's at least one thing in his tank that he'll munch on.

Introducing my Snephew!
I got permission from my sister to share about her dearest child, so here he is with a bit of a small timeline from when he was first found to now!
06/21/24: After many recent discussions with my sister about her desire to keep a pet snail (and her eternal disappointment that Giant African Land Snails are illegal to keep where we live), I got a text from her while I was at work. She'd found a teeny tiny little snail among the wild gooseberries she was sorting through and cleaning! She immediately got attached, named him Boof, and made him a little emergency terrarium out of an old container she had lying around.
06/26/24: We noticed that Boof had what looked like some shell growth and was getting bigger! This is just two days after setting him up in a nice 3 gallon terrarium with lots of moss and places to hide, and after that he pretty much disappeared.
07/02/24: Today! My sister was re-wetting the moss in Boof's terrarium and misting it down for the morning and he popped up out of nowhere! He's definitely gotten even bigger and has some more color to his shell in some spots. And yes, he did poop on my sister's hand. Twice, in fact. I just accidentally caught the first time in the video I took of him. 😅
He's definitely a cutie and we love him dearly! I look forward to seeing him grow to full size! I'll try to give some occasional updates as we get there too.
