i’m a square and that makes you giddy
9/10/19.
I love hashtags. At first I thought they were just stupid. But now I realize they allow one to be organized and track history. As I was preparing to post about Guidon Bear, I thought I’d go back and see what else I’ve posted from the Portland label Antiquated Fixtures. It was like going down a rabbit hole. It took me back to Saturday Night (Washington D.C., Gentle Reminder) and The Washboard Abs. Both are amazing bands and releases.
Guidon Bear is a blast from the past. While this is a new release it is steeped in early 90s indie/riot grrrl sounds. Mary Water is behind the music but has help from members of Lois and Courtney Love. In fact, one of the reviews found on the Bandcamp release page mentions, “It’s as if one’s transported back in time to the mid-90s indie rock scene; it’s not hard to put the music found here next to the best of Jenny Toomey (Tsunami, Liquorice), Rebecca Gates (The Spinanes), Mary Lou Lord, and, yes, The Lois...”.
Guidon Bear is based in Olympia, Washington.
